Is this an acceptable election statement/letter?

Hello all, we will be filing our federal and state taxes soon, by mail.

Firstly, is the election statement ive attached acceptable and does it need to cover everything needed (got it from a thread on this site so a shoutout to whoever made it :D).  If anyone has a template that they have used and had no issues with, and are willing to share, please do :)

Also, as we are filing federal and NC state taxes by mail, separately to their respective addresses, do we need to include the election statement in both envelopes or do we just include it in the federal tax envelope, as thats the one that the 2555 is applicable- i gathered this from the fact that in the turbo tax instructions for "file by mail" the form 2555 is only included with the federal tax return forms.

Thanks

YES. It has all the bits the IRS asks for.

You don’t have to call yourself “US Citizen/Resident Alien” if you were never an alien. Being a USC covers it.

Thanks for pointing that out!

Do you know if we send the 2555 with the state tax return documents?   I know it says in the instructions to send the 2555 with the 1040 so seems as though we should just include it with the federal tax return document but want to be as sure as possible

Each state will have their own rules, but 2555 is a federal form so I would guess No to sending with state as it’s not a state tax form so makes no sense to think it even applies.  Some people file their state return for only the USC who earned money in the state. You would have to read a bit about your state tax laws from their website and if you can file joint federal and separate on state. Or work out if joint on state is an advantage. Did TurboTax make any suggestions?

We don’t have a state income tax so we have never gone through a state return with  tax program software.
