GC received - next steps?

Hi All,

My GC interview went well, they actually asked my wife way more questions than me, the interviewer said she didn't think we'd need to supply any more documentation, and i'd get an email soon.

I then got an email on my way to work the next morning saying my application was approved and I got my green card in the mail yesterday.

So, my question is this: what are the next steps? I have a NY drivers license which was only valid until my EAD expired, and my SSN card says "only valid with work authorization". Do I need to update both of these with my GC info?

Thanks in advance!

You don't need to.  You can simply renew your DL before it expires,  you can visit SSA to get the restrictions removed if you want

YMMV

Wait about 10 days before doing any updating to make sure the new LPR status has populated the database is what the Social Security Office told us. Even if you bring the greencard, they need to see the status online from USCIS. Don’t know if NY uses the same S.A.V.E database at the DMV. Some states do. No rush or deadline to do these updates, but do it at some point.

youll need to renew the license when it is time. the social security card does not matter so much. you can if you want to, but with the greencard the words on it are a moot point.

@adamj7

You can read what Social Security says in their Publication “Your Social Security Number and Card” found here https://www.ssa.gov/pubs/EN-05-10002.pdf

From page 9–

What if my immigration status or citizenship changed?

If your immigration status changed or you became a U.S. citizen, you should tell Social Security so we can update your records. To get your immigration status or citizenship corrected, you need to show documents that prove your new status or citizenship. We can accept only certain documents as proof of citizenship for new and replacement cards. These include your U.S. passport, a Certificate of Naturalization or a Certificate of Citizenship. If you aren’t a U.S. citizen, Social Security will ask to see your current immigration documents
