HI, I JUST HAVE A QUICK QUESTION IF ANYONE COULD BE SO KIND AS TO HELP ANSWER IT. WE FILED FOR AOS WITH A RECEIPT DATE OF MARCH 1, 2007 AT LEE'S SUMMIT MISSOURI WHERE WE WERE TOLD TO SEND THE PAPERS. I HAD TO GET A CO-SPONSOR WHICH WE DID AFTER RECEIVING THE RFE. IT WAS ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS AND WE RECEIVED A PAPER SAYING THAT IN ORDER TO SPEED UP PROCESSING WE HAVE TRANSFERRED THE ABOVE CARE TO THE CALIFORNIA SERVICE CENTER, LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA. DO THEY PROCESS I-485'S FOR AOS THAT ARE NOT WORK BASED? I MEAN WE WERE MARRIED THAT IS THE REASON WE FILED FOR AOS, NOT FOR WORK. SORRY MAYBE I AM CONFUSED THERE. WHEN I WENT ONLINE TO CHECK FOR PROCESSING TIMELINES IT STATES BESIDE THIS PROCESSING CENTER, WORK BASED AOS. SORRY IS THIS TURNS OUT TO BE A DUMB QUESTION  THANKS FOR ANY INFORMATION ANYONE MAY HAVE. I KNOW YOU ARE ALL LOADED WITH INFO

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY,

CHERYL

Why do some people's cases get transferred to California?

Why do some people's cases get transferred to California?

You will get many answers to that question but it seems that the people getting transfered are the people that are going through local offices that are very backlogged and have simple cases.

Typically if you are transfered to CSC then there is a good chance you will be approved sooner than if your file had went to your local office and that you will not have to attend an interview.

Keep in mind that there are always unique circumstances so what I am saying is not always true for everyone.

FYI, I was transfered CSC and was approved rather quickly (2.5 months) and I didn't have to attend an interview. My Local office would have been Chicago.

It's very long, but nearly any question regarding CSC transfers can be found somewhere in this thread:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=387

You can also see how others are fairing in California.

Basically, all we know about transfers is what they tell us: to speed up processing, it's sent there instead of handled by your local office. We assume this means two things...1) local offices are flooded and need to get rid of cases because they do not have enough personnel to handle all of them and 2) the cases that they transfer to CSC are most likely the simple ones that can be processed easily, quickly and without interview (meaning there's less of a chance there's something questionable in the application).

Whether CSC is faster than the local offices really depends on which local office you're talking about. Some people who went through CSC got approved for their Green Cards within a couple months. Some take much longer (generally due to being stuck in name checks). Same with interviews...some people get lucky and have an interview right away and are approved that day, others have to wait several months for an interview and may get stuck in name checks.

That's the long way of saying that we don't know for certain, but think this is why cases are transferred.

You may also want to check out the March filers thread to keep track of other folks (like myself) who filed around the same date as you.

Oh, ok. I was just wondering. My case is now getting expedited because my husband leaves for Iraq August 5th so I'm wondering if there is a chance that it will get transferred.
