Hi,

My boyfriend and I decided to get married, but we want to wait for me to take his name until we can have a big family wedding, which might not be until Fall 2008.

We're doing a civil marriage at the end of the month.

I'm wondering if it can be a problem concerning the AOS and the GreenCard as I'll be changing name through the process (hopefully when i already have my temporary Green Card).

Can anyone advise me. Is it ok to do that? Or should I go ahead and take his name to simplify the process.

Thanks ahead.

08.2006: Entered with a B-2 visa.

07.06.07: Civil Wedding

07.17.2008 AOS approved with interview. It took 367 Days!

11.08.08: Big family wedding

09.18.09-10.03.09: First trip to France with Hubby

I-751

04.19.10: Package sent to Vermont

04.21.10: Delivered in Vermont

04.22.10: NOA date

04.23.10: Check cashed

05.17.10: Received biometrics appointment letter

06.07.10: Biometrics Appointment

06.26.10: Touched

07.07.10: Card Production Ordered!

07.17.10: Card in the mail :) Done until citizenship

I'm guessing that from the legal side of it, taking his name at the civil union will make things a lot simpler...but this is just my thoughts on it. :)

If you are the foreign citizen then only problem is when you do get the green card in your maiden name then decide on changing it you will need to file form I-90 and at that time the fee will be $370 to change the name on the green-card. SS card is free to change names on though.

I don't think name change is possible during the process only can do before by filing the AOS in married name (FREE), or after by filing I-90 to get name changed on the green-card $370

Ok, thank you. I think the fee definitely makes me reconsider this.
