what i did was just have a spanish teacher friend of mine state "I Sally..... am competent and certified... to translate spanish to english" then sign it, put her address and how she is certified

then sign and initial all of the documents I translated and she just approved by putting her intitials and signature. i did that for the birth certificate too for lima

and it worked out

If you dont need it translated for the interview, you will need it translated later for AOS. So getting the birth certicate translated is helpful.

Jakarta provided a list of certified translators with packet 3. And we used someone off that list. But you will probably be fine if you have a friend do it. You might run into trouble if you do it yourself.

get a REAL TRANSLATOR for the interview? not too far from the reniec in lima...i think outside the ministerio de exteriores, there are people offering to translate your birth certificate. ONLY the birth certificate has to be translate but it has to be translated PROFESSIONALLY...not by a friend...but like NOTARIZED by the PROFESSIONAL that translated it...it takes about a week

Timeline:

Oct. 6 - Packet mailed by lawyer to CSC

Oct. 10 - NOA1 Received

and still waiting

May 19 - Set wedding date that I hope we don't have to change

She told me that for the interview she did not have to get it translated, for the submittal of the I-129F packet, I did translate it, and just used my spanish teacher friend and had her sign that form that she is equipped to translate, all the my fiance had to do was get her birth certificate notarized for the interview, not translated. There just notarized, here I had to translate for the US
