It is all about WILL POWER, Cold Turkey.

I know many people who quit, and anything that continues to give you nicotine just keeps the habit going, they are all just tricks to keep you in the habit.

The only way to quit is to go cold turkey, and don't smoke, and don't hang around others who do smoke.

The cravings will be hard for at least a week, but will go away.

Good Luck!

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

This might not sound like a practical piece of advice, but try and pin down WHY you smoke- that should be able to help you enormously in quiting.

Once I had no choice but to admit to myself that the only reason I'm smoking is boredom, I also had no choice but to think about something else to do every time I thought about a cigarette.

Also, if you fall off the wagon and smoke one don't use that as an excuse to say "Oh well, now that I smoked this one I might as well continue smoking regularly", just take a deep breath and take it from step one again.

Good luck

Naturalized! Yeah!

i think i smoke because of stress + i've been smoking 22 years, so the addiction is real & strong. i quit for like 2 days once & i was not easy to be around. someone told to try hypnosis. but some one else told me they did that & it didn't work.

I've tried cold turkey twice. Once I started in 2000 and it last 3 years. Then I went back to smoking occasionally til I couldn't stop anymore. Then last year before coming here I decided to quit again. It last til I was here (I think 2 months only) and my husband smokes close to me so I just went back to smoking. I don't blame him, I blame myself for using excuses to go back (i'll gain weight, etc)

I know I smoke mostly because I'm bored, I don't even like to smoke anymore, and also, of course, because the nicotine need. I've noticed that now I'm working I leave my cigs in the car so I don't take smoke breaks, I wind up not smoking for 8 hours, which is great. But if I'm home, on the comp, bored, I wind up having one after another.

Maybe your fiancee will give a reason to quit when she's there if she doesn't smoke. Just set a date, get any help you believe will help you, if welbutrin, patches, gun, eatting baby carrots :P because people are different, if will power was so easy there would be no overweight people in the world.

Hey Cold turkey (I mean Mike :) )

I quit when my first daughter was born. I had some small relapses (well, not that small) but it was cold turkey for me. I also gained a lot of weight during my quitting. But I alwasy had finger food around like carrots or celery. For some reason it felt good just to have something in my smoking hand. I smoked for 12 years and it was one of the hardest things i did but the rewards in how you will feel are just so great. I have no good answer to quitting, it was hard and took a long time but it is worth it and I would never go back.

good luck Mike

I quit many times before but did it for good two years ago.

What worked for me was this 5-step program:

1) Make up my mind that I will quite once and for all

2) Set a date on which I will quit - this was about 8 weeks out

3) Reduce daily cigarette consumption daily from roughly a pack down to 2-3 cigs a day

4) Throw away remaining cigs the night before target quit date

5) Don't look back.

Good Luck!

Keep trying to quit, don't give up hope. I tried many, many times to quit and finally did it three years ago. You need to really get it in your mind that you want to quit! I know how difficult it is so stick with it. I wish you the best, good luck

I knew this guy who use to smoke. He said in this class he took the physical addiction part takes three or four days to get past. After that you're no longer physically addicted, just psychologically addicted. Which still isn't easy, of course.

A neighbor of mine hasn't had a cigarette for 53 days. He's in his 60's, smoked since he was a teenager. So you can quit at any age.

Good luck!
