Moving internationally

Hi everyone, my fiancé has his interview with the embassy on Wednesday. We are obviously hoping for the approval, so we are talking about how he will be moving his stuff here. Does anyone have any advice on moving from the UK to the US? He won’t be shipping any furniture or big items, just clothes and Knick knacks. Thanks!

The simplest way is to bring it all as checked baggage. Even paying for an extra suitcase or 2 will be cheaper and easier than using any sort of carrier shipping service

If it is more than the above mentioned suitcases. Check online for local package consolidators I recently found one in Holland that was slightly cheaper than checked baggage but it will take a while for your stuff to get to the US. Also be prepared for itemizing everything inside a package and declare the value of each and every item. The days of using "Personal effects no commercial value" are over and they want a very specific list.

 

Might be cheaper to just pack the things he cannot part with and leave the rest behind. Make sure he brings all his documents. Some are handy to have and others may be needed again at the AOS, ROC and N400 stage
