Throwing money at the problem isn't going to help, as we've been throwing money at it for generations and nothing has changed. It has become worse. We are failing generation after generation of kids becoming adults. That's not to say that money isn't badly needed, but a whole fundamental change as well. As for all those more famous life-changing events that Americans were involved in, a lot of those persons came from foreign schools and high level universities where education is vastly different in scope. We had a much different mindset back then.

My grandfather was an engineer, carpenter, mechanic, and artist... never finished his schooling until he was able to get his GED as an older man. Crazy smart though, not a thing he couldn't do. Nowadays my husband is talking to teachers at college that have kids coming in that don't have basic math and reading skills. They passed entry exams and placements to somehow get in. And he's heard stories of teachers being told if they don't pass bad kids they will be fired. Some kids didn't even know how to use a computer vs a phone and couldn't function in a basic computer class. Unless proper education is given when young.. they aren't going to make it as adults.

The problem with your words is that they refer to something from long ago.  Common sense.  Today, it is Uncommon sense that allows one to arrive at the though process that you are able to achieve.  Those who want something for "nothing", or "free" stuff, cannot see past their emotions to realize that nothing is truly free.  Or at least that's how I have come to understand their passion for "free stuff".  What boggles my mind is that some of my friends from decades ago, who seemed SO SMART back then, today are pushing the (mostly left?) agenda that many things should be free.  Well, if you look at where most of the poverty-stricken areas are, and how good it might look in those areas to see someone else's money pouring in to "save them", rather than them fighting to get out and move up, it sort of makes sense.

Refresh my memory.  Why did you come here again?  Why did you leave Armenia?

I'm not from Armenia, but I came here to be with my spouse, like most people here. It was never my dream to move to America, I just fell in love with an American. Also, every country has problems and I criticize my own country just as much but for different things.

You DO realize, don't you, that your taxes don't have to pay for others' education?  You can just donate a portion of your monthly salary to multiple colleges of your choice, funding grants for students who need them.

You do realize that charity is not substitute for good government policy? Actually, I take that back, I'm pretty you don't realize that. I also don't want my taxes to go to the military. I can't do anything about it other than support politicians who want to spend my tax dollars on meaningful things, such as education.

Your timeline says Armenia.  I can only go by what you say about yourself, since I do not know you.

If you consider yourself pretty, then good on you.  Self confidence is a good thing.

And if you think politicians will spend your money the way you want, welcome to America!

Ok, so which country are you from that gave you a free education?

I'd like to be anonymous here.

Telling us which country gave you a free education is hardly going to identify you.  No one wants to know who you are or to find you.  But I'd like to know to which country you refer when you talk highly about it.

Yep, but you know my immigration timeline and where in the US I live. I'm past the consular process, so my country is not relevant to my immigration process and I'm not going to list it.

I don't talk that highly of my home country. It has some serious issues that concern me deeply and there are many things that the US does better.

Look, I am not interested in YOU, other than your claims about how you enjoyed your free education, and how much better the US would be if it were like your former domicile.  If you are that embarrassed to admit where you lived before so we can discuss WHY your education was free, I reckon that's your choice.

Goodnight

I accept your resignation.  I am used to debating with people who cannot back up their claims when the going gets tough.  It's ok to want nice things, but to hope someone else pays for it, that's NOT the American way.  Best of luck adjusting here.

Hmmm, a familiar failure to answer questions.
