Hello everyone,

I was checking the timeline for the K1 visas on this website, and I noticed that for some cases it takes something like 150 days and for some other cases it can take around 400 days (I-129f -> interview).

I was wondering what are the main reasons for a case to be that fast or that long?

Thank you!

Some cases are expedited. A lot of military cases do this, but it’s not limited to just that.

Some people just get lucky.

Other people get stuck in background checks, verification of documents, etc. Also, some consulates are severely backlogged, taking several months (or longer) to just get an interview.

The overwhelming majority of I-129Fs without RFEs will be processed within about two months from the first non-expedite we see here for their NOA1 date, though there are some outliers (sometimes very extreme outliers at that).

What happens at individual embassies and consulates is more variable.

I see that you'll be interviewing at the French Embassy, well for us the longest wait was between NOA2 and getting an appointment at the embassy.

Noa1 to noa2 was about 3 months
Noa2 to interview:  5 months

It depends I guess on the workload of each embassy, number of appointments etc..

Really?  So, on average, I-129Fs are processed in two months after receiving the first NOA1?

That's not what I meant.

I meant that when you see the first non-expedited person with a given NOA1 date get their NOA2, then almost everyone from around that date will be done within two months. That's been true no matter how fast or slow USCIS has been processing things.

So a couple of years ago, we filed on May 31. The first NOA2s from late May/early June 2018 started showing up in mid-November (including ours). Almost everyone from May/June 2018 who didn't have an RFE had their NOA2 by mid-January (not everyone; there were a few that took longer).
