c-1/d visa and K1 fiancé visa

Hi there  I'm from the UK and I'm planning on accepting a job on the Disney Cruise ship very soon and the contract is around 4 months. The ship would be travelling to and from orlando and Bahamas and I will be on a C-1/d visa.

My boyfriend is American living in Orlando and we were wanting to do the K1 visa this year so I am able to live out there and be with him. Now the K1 process time can be up to 9 months so I was wondering if I was able to start the k1 process and apply for one while I am working on the ship for the 4 months so when I'm back we would only have to wait a few more months for it to be accepted or would I have to wait till my contract with Disney cruise ends and then apply?

Your fiance can start the K-1 process at any time.  No reason to wait.   You would, of course, have to return to your country after your contract to complete the process.

A ship that sails from Orlando? How do they do that? It’s inland. 
 

Anyway, as had already been mentioned it’s perfectly possible to apply for a K-1 whilst having another active visa.

She meant port Canaveral. It's not that far from Orlando.

Yeah it will dock at port Canaveral sorry. But I just wasn't sure if I'd be allowed in the us while the k1 visa is being processed because I'm sure I've read somewhere that you have to be in your home country.

You interview in the home country.

 

K1's can visit if the have a visa or VWP.   Petitioning does not cancel a visa already issued.  However a (old) visa may be cancelled at the interview.

There is no requirement to be in your home country to start the process.  Many people enter the US during the K-1 visa process.  As stated earlier, you must return to your home country after your contract in order to complete the K-1 process.  In addition, you must leave the US within 29 days per the requirements of the C-1/D visa.
