I am currently in the process of gathering documentation to prove our relationship and our intent to marry however we have extremely limited evidence as it has mainly been a long distance online relationship. Below is what we have so far (which I think might be seen as weak to the consular). I am so worried as we didn't take any photos when we were living together.

* 2 group photos taken in 2013 at our apartment building (we met in NY in 2013 as were roommates which then turned romantic)

* Emails to the apartment building at the end of the tenancy agreement about the moving out process (we both rented the room, we were not the lease holder)

* Passport stamp showing I was in NY and my old J1 visa

* 1 facebook post of a picture of the apartment and a dinner party we both threw in 2014 (nobody is in this just the set up, the status says we both threw it)

* 1 page of explaining how we met and that we lived together for 10 months in NY before I returned to the UK. Explained how it turned romantic and a timeline

* 5 screenshots of facebook messenger chats (2014-2018). Since most of our communication was done via whatsapp or facetime calling these facebook conversations are literally just generic "how are you" "what have you been doing" "i miss you and love you". (I have also got some Facebook wall posts to include but again these are the same sort of messages)

* Whatsapp call log - mine only goes back 1 year though to 2019.

* Letter of intent to marry

*2 Affidavits - 1 from my mum who came to NY and saw us together and one from our old roommate in NY who can support our relationship.

* 20 photos of us together on a trip we took in January in 2020 (spent a week in Europe, 14 photos of just us, 6 group with my family and friends).

* Boarding pass for the Europe trip and receipts of dinners and tourist things we did together

*Whatsapp screenshots of more in depth conversations now we are engaged, talking about the wedding and our future.

This is literally it.

My main worry is that from 2014 - 2019 we don't really have much to prove our relationship. Our messenger chats are generic conversations and I can't get any call logs from Facetime over that period. I am worrying that this time will appear as a red flag to them as we hadn't seen each other, our relationship was online only. The truth is we both had to finish our university degrees and then started working to save money, the plan was for me to then come out to America with him a few years later (granted we both didn't expect for it to be this long). I tried to come out on a B2 visa in 2019 to spend 6 months there but this got denied due to not showing enough home ties (would this affect my K1 at all??).

I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me any advice and if any other possible evidence can should be gathered. Also I would like your opinions if you think maybe we should invest into getting a lawyer?

Thank you

It depends on the country if you need to front load the application, but for most European countries (I'm assuming you're from Europe due to your recent meeting there and your family being there) I don't think it is necessary. Important is the proof that you have met in the last two years, so a few pictures from that trip, boarding passes, and passport stamps are great evidence to send in. In addition you have the history of having lived together as students which you have evidence for as well and which I would think can only be in your favor. Don't worry about sending all those chat screenshots, I really don't think its necessary and you seem to be worried about the content looking bad anyway. Just leave those out and I'm pretty sure you'll be fine. We didn't send any chat logs, just a few random screenshots of my fiances call history in whatsapp showing that we had been talking frequently, but I don't think even those were necessary.

You actually have gathered a lot of stuff! I would say look it over from the perspective of the officer who is looking to see that you have a genuine relationship and that you have met in person during the last two years. And who also probably doesn't have the time to go through many pages of evidence. So select what best proves your case, and choose a few pictures that best demonstrate you met and you are in a stable relationship (for example if you have a picture of you two together with your family, showing the relationship is serious enough that you introduced your fiance to them).

Mind you this is only my personal opinion and I am by no means an expert. And also, it would be much easier to give advice if you filled in your timeline so we could see which country you are from. Good luck!

Can you prove you met up  in person during the last two years? That’s the requirement. Proof of living together prior to 2 years ago is a nice history, but does not meet the actual requirement so loading up with 2014 evidence clutters the file.  Focus on last two years and pick the best 6 photos. Maybe include one from way back for nostalgia. You actually have listed too much in my opinion. This is easier than you think.
