Back again,

So I wanted to start a new discussion regarding the Administrative Process. So my husband was approved for his visa, passed his medical exam, and his passport was taken. However, my husband only had a certified copy of our marriage certificate and not the original. He was given a 221(g) refusal form that provided information on what he needed to provide, and how to submit the marriage certificate. (I provided the picture below)

***Original Marriage Certificate Mailed (2/3/2020) same day as interview

***DHL confirmed that Marriage Certificate arrived and signed for at embassy (2/6/2020)

I am writing this post for two reason... To inform others and to understand that administrative process "pool" myself. I say "pool" because there are others in the same category as myself and are wondering about the process. Please help me with the questions below.

True/False: Every application initially starts in the "Administrative Process" after the interview approval, then status will change to ready, then to issued.

True/False:  If you are missing a document and it is submitted, the embassy will notify you by email to let you know they have received the missing document.

True/False: Your case creation date will change once your visa is ready to be mailed.

And of course, the obvious... how long will the Administrative Process take based on a missing document?

False, the status will go to administrative for a final check in order to issue a visa. After all the check was done, visa will be print and status will changed to issue.

This will depend the embassy where you took the interview. Some send email, some don't.

False, your case creation will not change because it was created by NVC when they received your approved I-130.

There is no clear answer for this. It can be few day, a month, or even a year.

I don't get the part about the "original" marriage certificate.  Where I live, the county/state keeps the original as a legal vital statistic document, just like original birth and death certificates.

Certified copies (stamped/wet signature) are considered to be equivalent to originals.  We paid $30 for ten of them, and one went in our AOS packet.

In PA, you keep an original. I say "an" as the officiant signs an identical one and submits that the the country clerk's office for recording. But the one you have on the day of the marriage is an original and valid marriage certificate. It says "Original Marriage Certificate" in large letters. :)

Good to know.  The embassies sure have their work cut out for them with so many variations by state!

Sorry to hear that you are in the black hole of AP.  Hopefully for Jamaica it will be fast, sounds like a simple fix and you sent the original so quickly.  Good luck with the rest of the process!

For Jamaica

True- though this can go very fast so you might never see the changes

False- kgn doesn't let you know they've received anything

True/False- every time someone touches your case the date changes not the case creation the other one... Can't remember what it's called.

If you got married in Jamaica they certainly won't accept certified copies because you can easily get multiple "originals" from RGD.

They usually say within 90 days. How long it actually takes varies significantly from case to case in kgn.

Cateogory: CR1

  • NOA1/Notice of receipt: Sept. 15, 2015
  • NOA2/I130 Approved: February 8, 2016 (NO RFE) :)
  • Process slowed down by us
  • Sent documents to NVC: April 11, 2016
  • Scan date: April 14/ May 7th (NVC said both I dont know why)
  • Case Complete: May 31, 2016 (No checklist) :dancing:

August 17, 2016: Visa Approved!!!! :dancing:

Ditto - @Thegirl

For JA  - AP is the time from the approval until visa is issued.

AP length of time varies, but for married visa they process them faster than K-1.

Phase I - IV - Completed the Immigration Journey
