N 400 February 2020 Filers

A digital copy of the letter showed up on the website today. My appointment is schedule for March 9, 2021. Time to study! 

 

I remember some folks had their oath ceremonies right after their interviews (I am guessing to speed up the process due to COVID). Does anyone know if this is still the case?

March 5 or March 2005?! Your interview was scheduled the month after you applied?

Finally got the notification for interview is scheduled in long island, exactly after a year. But now the estimated completion time shows Oct 2021 after interview is scheduled.

I had my interview today, and it was actually faster and easier than I expected. Afterwards, they gave me the notice for the Oath Ceremony, in 3 days time! Super quick, I was not expecting that!

 

I did waive the name change I had requested. They told me all courts are closed due to Covid and it could take up to a year to schedule me for the ceremony, so I just decided not to go through with it. I still can't believe in 3 days it will finally all be over!

I do not remember the sentence they asked me to read, mostly because I didn't expect the English portion of the test to happen when it did, but the sentence I was asked to write was "Washington was the first president". The questions they asked for the Civics teste were:

 

What did Abraham Lincoln do?

Where is the Statue of Liberty located?

Who is the President now?

What is the capital of my state?

Who was President during the Great Depression?

Who makes federal laws?

Like you prior to my interview I really was looking forward to everyone posting their questions here, but really it's 6 questions (I responded correctly so didn't get all 10) taken word for word from the list of 100. One thing he did mention before starting the test was that he was just "clicking" the button as the question selection is generated randomly by the computer. The officer himself doesn't just randomly select questions which is something I didn't know prior to my interview. My questions were:

2. What does the Constitution do?
44. What is the capital of your state?*
64. There were 13 original states. Name three.
65. What happened at the Constitutional Convention?
70. Who was the first President?*
90. What ocean is on the East Coast of the United States?

I am sure you knew this, but in case you hadn't checked it out yet there is one lady on youtube, her name is Essa, who does the whole test with all the questions. I don't know if you can link youtube here but if you "youtube" "2020 U.S. CITIZENSHIP QUESTIONS" she will show up. It is a 47 minute video. If you can go through all that, you should be ready for the civics test. Note that although it says 2020 questions, the video was made prior to the question changes so for those of us who filed before December 1st 2020, those are our questions, although for those of you who will have their interview now questions like "who is the current president" for instance need to have the appropriate answer.

Most people do because of Covid, when they get approved right away. Some have to wait for a decision on their case, which also happened to me, so then you have to wait. For me there is 2 months between the interview and the ceremony. But that varies for others. And I know of someone who had the interview too late in the day to have the oath ceremony on the same day, so he got an invitation for some weeks later.

That happens a lot. It doesn’t mean much really. It seems that the computer system just spews something out... You might get the ceremony on the same day as the interview or soon after.

I received interview scheduled email today. Interview is on March 10th in Santa Ana, CA.

We're almost done! We had our interview today at 9:55. We were called back at 11:26 (there were about 6 who were called before us) and we were out by 12:15.

It was a combo interview, so I was able to go back with my husband. The I-751 interview was more like a conversation. He asked us both: what's your name, D.O.B, address, social security, where do you work, phone number). We brought a lot of updated and new evidence, but he only wanted updated bank statements, evidence of our joint auto purchase, taxes from 2015-2019 and our 2020 W2s, evidence of our trips together, and arrest records (for driving without a license).  Then he conducted the N400 and allowed me to stay in the room.

The answer to the questions were:

Civil War, Native Americans, John G. Roberts Jr., New York (name a state that borders Canada), President Joe Biden, and Republicans and Democrats. Then the N400 was reviewed and some of the above questions were repeated and there were new ones (what is your height, have you taken a trip outside of the U.S since filing N400, when did you become a green card holder). Hubby had a little trouble with the Yes and No questions. On the application when the question asked if you have ever committed a crime for which you were not arrested for, he answered yes. He received a speeding ticket and because he had his license then, paid a fine as opposed to being arrested when he was driving without a license. The interviewer, asked the question again and he said no. At this point, I realized he was asking if my husband had ever got away with committing a crime. I could see the interview was becoming a little exasperated and even said I'm going to ask you again and if you can't answer, I'm going to stop the interview because you don't understand. The issue was my husband did understand the questions, but was confused. I was trying to telepathically explain this to my hubby and let him know he needed to say no. After an agonizing 5 seconds when the interviewer asked him again, hubby said no and the questions continued. Write: California has the most people. We cant' remember what the reading part was.

At the end, the interviewer asked for the evidence of the speeding ticket (which caused us to answer yes for the above question) and we provided that to him.  We also gave him a copy of hubby's green card (which was taken away at his infopass appointment for the I-551 stamp).

After a lot of computer typing and paper shuffling, hubby reviewed the corrections and signed. We received  a verbal approval for both cases. Officially, the N-400 post interview notice states a decision cannot be made (I think because we submitted more evidence and updated the application). We were told that we would receive a notice later regarding the oath ceremony. We asked if he knew when we might be scheduled and he said "no one knows". I'm trying not to focus on the fact that we didn't get an immediate approval (it's my understanding that this happens from time to time) and ride the high of our passed interviews 😊

Hi All - husband has his interview on Monday (pending the snow doesn't cancel it!!) and I want to go over the documents we've uploaded and what he will/should bring- any help is greatly appreciated! Applied based on 3 year marriage. 

We uploaded- marriage certificate, US citizen birth certificate/passport, tax transcripts from 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, US citizen 403b that shows LPR is beneficiary, US citizen and LPR drivers license showing same address, 2 bank statements per year from 2016-2019, copy of greencard and uploaded daughters birth certificate in December. 

In addition to the above- he will bring updated bank account statements, selective service letter that shows he did not have to register, NOA1 and biometrics letter, old greencard and EAD card along with current passport and greencard. (We can not find his old passport that had the visa) HOWEVER- I can not find US citizen original birth certificate so he will only have a copy but will have US citizens passport. He will have daughters original birth certificate and I am hoping I can find our original marriage certificate. 

We will write out his dates of travel since applying as well (10 days out of the country).

 

We have not filed taxes yet this year- should he have his W2s for 2020? Anything we are missing? Anything not needed? Thank you all!
