Filed N-400 online on February, 17. Today was my interview/oath day at USCIS Charlotte NC (201 Regency Executive Park Dr). Everything went smooth and quick. I arrived at 8.20am (appt was at 9) and was out of the building with my certificate at 10 am. Filed based on 5-year rule (obtained my GC thru employment). Brought a whole stack of papers, but only had to show my green card.

Hi everyone,

Good to see your cases moving along, and even finalized for some.

Meanwhile here in Southern California I noticed today that my status was changed to:

We are taking longer than expected to process your case. You do not need to do anything at this time.

I am 99.9% sure it's because of COVID since everything in So Cal is grinding to a halt because of it. Has anyone in Southern California seen any movement on their cases? I'm in San Bernardino County but was sent to LA County for my biometrics.

We are not in CA but we had the same change last week. Surprisingly our estimated completion date has not changed.

I have been following the median and the range estimate of processing time given on the their website per application type and per location of the office.  It has not changed for 1 month and 1 day... And they say they do the math once a month.  So, that could mean they either are working on it and will be posted soon, or the processing time estimate for the office I have been following for this month is the same as the last month's estimate.  I think I read somewhere that they do their calculations every month on Mid month, but I am not sure how accurate that is.

My field office is San Bernardino as well, but my ASC is Riverside.  I have had nothing since submitting.  I have noticed a few others who filed later get biometrics and interview appointments (one definitely in April, and I think one in May, but not sure).

I received the interview schedule form and it says bring "Any evidence of Selective Service Registration".

Is it required for me to obtain "any" document from the Selective Service department? or I can just say at the interview that I was on non-immigrant F-1 visa during ages of 18 and 26. My interview is about 4 weeks from now on Oct 13. Any experiences ?

Thanks !

- In USA between ages 19 and 24 : I was on F-1 visa  (non-immigrant visa)

- Back to Korea from 25 - 27 for mandatory military

- In USA between ages 27 and 33 : I was on F-1 visa  (non-immigrant visa)

- Then, kept working in a company afterwards in US

I wish I could help you but maybe I can help point you in the right direction.. Maybe try reaching out to the selective service to see if you can receive a document that shows you did not have to register? https://www.sss.gov/register/immigrants/

My husband entered the country at age 26 therefore he was not required to register. However, when applying for federal financial aid he had to have proof that he entered the country age 26+ and not required for register.. so we had reached out to the selective service and obtained a document stating he was not required to register.. so he has proof from them that we've now presented multiple times.

My brother got his citizenship early this year. He entered US on a F-1 visa at age 23, then OPT and finally H1B at age 27. There were no questions about Selective Service during his interview.

Here is what the exemption says:

Exemption from Selective Service Registration - Non-U.S. male on a valid non-immigrant visa

For example, if the man entered the United States as an F-1 student visa and remained in that status until his 26th birthday, he would need to provide documentation indicating that he was admitted on an F-1 visa and attended school full-time as required. The same thing applies for all non-immigrant statuses (such as B1, B2, H1B, H2A, L1, J1 etc).

Here is a link to the list of acceptable documents from the sss web site - https://www.sss.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/DocumentationList.pdf

USCIS already has all your VISA history on file, and the interview officer would know that you were exempt from the Selective Service Registration. So I don't think the topic will even come up. But, if it does, you can show your old passports with F-1 visas, and the I-20s from the schools your attended (if you still have them) before you turne 26. Anything after 26 is not relevant. In fact that is another exemption category - "Non-U.S. male who entered the country for the first time after his 26th birthday".

So, don't fret about. You don't need any documentation from SSS. Just have the documentation proving your non-immigrant visa status before you turned 26, if the topic comes up during the interview.
