You are making a good point.  I think what you are talking about in other threads of running out of waiting days to end up saying it is taking them longer than expected is slightly different than your case.  Those people usually talk about normal wait time... the 1 month apart you mention, and when their time is up it tells them more wait time is needed.  But, in your case, it sounds to me that something moved and that you will be getting the next step sooner rather than later. I would be optimistic and hopeful if I was you... Let's hope we are both right for you...

So, last night, I checked and my Estimated wait time was down to 27 days, which was the correct countdown since 3 days had elapsed.

Today, I just spoke with a friend of mine who was a January 2020 filer at the Newark Field Office, and his Estimated wait time just went from 30 days a week ago down to 2 days today!!!

As a curiosity, I logged in again and my Estimated wait time has now gone up to 29 days (vs. 27 days last night)!!!!!

Although I am upset I got an extra 2 days, I view this as a very good sign, in the sense that the Estimated wait time seems to be a dynamic calculation and is very likely to be accurate then!!!

If my friend indeed gets a notification letter for his interview in two days, it will be the undeniable proof that the Estimated wait time countdown is accurate.

Hate to be negative, but the Newark office is still trying to reschedule interviews for people who filed in June/July 2019, your friends gonna have a long wait of “we’re taking longer than expected”.

Hi everyone,

I submitted my N-400 on 2/5/2020 and the Estimated case completion time shown on my case is August,2020 (as you can see on the screenshot), and the Estimated wait time for the next step is 1 DAY (so excited to know what's gonna happen tomorrow😂). Since today is 7/12/2020 and I am still waiting for the interview to be scheduled, I can not imagine how this case can be completed in a month by August 2020. Do you guys know how accurate and meaningful the estimated dates on the screenshot could be? I would be very grateful if I could finish the whole naturalization process by the end of this year considering the surging pandemic in FL. Fingers crossed!  Good luck to everyone of you!

image.png.4640109358da3f6111c44a5e29db9c6f.png

Today I checked my profile and the estimate wait time changed from "we need more time..." to "5 days" and the estimate case completion time updated from "August 2020" to "September 2020", I see this as a good sign which means they are updating the system recently to make the estimate dates more accurate. If the estimate wait time changed to "we need more time..." again in 5 days, I would be very disappointed and ignore these counting down online for a long while until I receive the interview notice in mail. Let's see what happen. Fingers crossed.

It looks like that many people had their timeline change some how... Mine went for 1 more additional month.  From what everyone else is saying, it seems like that the system did this change of waiting time for everyone.  Maybe they are receiving too many phone calls and decided to change the waiting time in order to achieve a smaller call volume.  Maybe they are anticipating delays due to cuts in staffing and that's why they changed it for everyone.

In regards to your friend, it may be different because a step is soon to be taken for him before the staffing cuts. Who knows... It is all speculations and obviously we will have biases with those speculations to our own perceptions and expectations. Keep us posted of what you end up finding out with your friend's situation and timeline.

Well hi friends!

My Estimated Wait Time and Case Completion Time also changed today...I was hoping for one month less to go but I got a month added...so still 3 months wait time and my completion time is now December instead of November...it's disappointing that my case is taking so long in such a small field office (Honolulu). There's nothing I can do for the moment, right?

My estimated wait time is now 5 days. I've been checking every week and it keep dropping. Case completion still says October 2020. It's been that since I started to see this few weeks ago.

How accurate are these estimation? Perhaps they are just guidance?

Due to covid etc.. I've stopped tracking application since March and just started looking few weeks ago. Seems to be coming soon. Is there a guide somewhere to prepare for interview?

When you say "keep dropping", do you mean it drops as time passes in the same rate as time passes?  Meaning, once a month passes, it drops by a month; or once a day passes, it drops by a day.  Or... Do you mean it drops as in a week passes, but time drops by a month?

Means the "estimated wait time" keep decreasing.  I logged in today and I see "Estimated Wait Time:" is 4 days. As you can see, I posted on the weekend and it said 5 days remaining. So it's like a countdown decreasing at the same rate.

I don't know how accurate this is but looking like by Friday it should either change or they schedule an interview. I'll find out either way. Will post here.

I don't think there is someone in the office with this timeline in mind who feel that they have to keep the Friday deadline in their mind.  It is a count down done by a computer, and at this point I would say the interview announcement has nothing to do with this count down. This count down is computer generated while setting the date of interview is human-generated.  The computer generated timeline is based on a computer estimate + a couple of months extra... But in this case and because of COVID and because of the cut down in the staffing, it would be expected that the computer timeline will be invalid.

Thanks for your reply. I understand they are "estimate" and computer generated. Reason why I started my question few post before the above asking if anyone knows they are anything to rely upon even from a ballpark view. I'm not counting on those estimate to be 100% accurate for all we know it's an estimated from USCIS which aren't even close during normal operations but I think they get adjusted and eventually it falls into the lap of a human who would schedule interview. Let's see how it goes.
