If you had any kids from your previous marriage who are USCs, then upload their birth certificates.

You may also upload your IRS Tax Transcripts for the last 5 years, if you want.

Also, this is the "Feb-2020" filers group. You probably meant to post in the "Feb-2021" filers group

No, you don't have to upload the transcripts. It is not required but many suggest it as it shows your lived in the US for 5 years, earned an income and do not have any tax dues. Uploading or not uploading the tax docs has no effect on the processing time line. But you should take them with you when you go for the interview. If the IO asks for income proof (W2, 1099s, Tax-Docs etc) and you can't show them, then your N-400 can be delayed. They will most likely issue an RFE. And if you cannot satisfy the RFE within the given time then your application can be denied. (FYI, I didn't upload my Tax docs with my N-400. I took them with me for the interview, but the IO didn't ask for them.)

Usually, the officers are quite helpful and work with you to resolve an issue. You get two more chances even if you fail the first interview. Denial of the application only happens if you fail to meet eligibility despite all three interviews. Even then you can apply again or hire an attorney to do it for you.

Also, if you have ever been out of the US for more then 6 months continuously in the past 5 years, then you need to upload documents that show your continued residency in the US thru that period - like rent or mortgage payments, health & auto insurance etc. Most likely doesn't apply to you, but thought I'd mention it.

hi thank you for detailed answer.

i just want to submit my application that's why i don't want to wait on gathering documents if i don't have to upload.

i never left us more than 1 day within last 5 years. no kids. just had divorce. i am applying within 90day window for 5 year rule. i am not married anymore.

these are what i'm uploading:

1 - copy of green card(expired)

2 - copy of divorce decree

3 - traffic ticket receipts

4 - copy of driver licence

these are enough correct? i won't get an RFE or denial because of missing documents?

I can bring tax documents etc and everything to interview no problem but i just want to make sure what i submit online is correct.

thank you again.

If you apply online the website will tell you what you need to upload based on your details.  There can be issues with uploading.  I suggest you place scans of all documents in a folder, then when you are happy with the details in the form, upload all files and submit in one session.  This gives the best chance of successful upload.

Once you fill the N-400 online application, based on your answers it will prompt you to upload the required documents. And even after submitting, you can still upload additional documents anytime you want.

You won't get a denial for missing documents but you may get an RFE if you didn't provide a required document.

Here is the document checklist in case you haven't seen it before. Use it to decide which ones are applicable to you and you will know which documents you need to upload.

Hi everyone, March 2020 filer here.

I see many times people continue to share their timelines on forums, but do not fill this information in their profile.

In your Profile, under My Timeline, under "add comment to Timeline" there is a window for N-400 data.

Filing this out will allow people to click on your Timeline next to your pic/avatar and view your time path.

More importantly, this data will appear in dedicated N-400 Timline on this portal for everyone to compare, here it is: https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/citlist.php?cfl=&op5=5,10,11

Hi everyone!

I had my 5 year interview at the Chicago office on 01/28, unfortunately the officer told me it's looking like it will be **months** before I'm even scheduled for an oath ceremony; now I understand why my estimated completion time says August 2021... However, immediately after the interview my status online changed to "placed in line." Fingers crossed!

Received my oath letter this morning! I'm surprised to have received it this early, was not expecting that. Scheduled for March 12, very excited to almost be done with this whole thing!

Hi DM4,

I don't really understand where to do what.

When I look at the N-400 timeline list you share the link for, I don't see mine. I did fill out all the information on my timeline so I don't understand why it doesn't show up in the list.

Hi Soley,

You are there. Look again. For your convenience I used the "filters" directly below the table and entered your filing location. See link now: https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/citlist.php?op6=All&op7=West+Palm+Beach+FL&op1=3&op2=&op4=1&op5=&cfl=0

You are 3rd from the bottom, "Judy & Jim". In addition to the filters and sorting columns, I also click the "enable advanced mode" in upper right corner of the table (so I can see "comments" column). Hope this helped.

Thank you DM4, I did see it now. When I filtered myself, I didn't show up in the list. Maybe I did too much filtering as it also asked for the Service Center 😉

I just wanted to make sure to be of whatever help we can be to those that are still in the process. I know how nerve wrecking this whole thing is...

Thanks again :)

You're welcome. Agreed. Precisely why I encourage everyone to fill out the Timeline, to help others as a reference. I filed one month after you, In March 2020 and based on the Timeline I can guesstimate my interview will be around May 2021 (the waiting game is draining me! LOL). By the way I see you uploded statement objecting to bear arms (after your interview?). I did not know you could object to that. It was my understanding it is a requirement and otherwise a deal breaker. Apparently not?

Yes I understand your feelings... but it does come to an end! Hopefully you will get your interview soon!!!

I uploaded the statement objecting to bear arms after the interview, because it was taking so long to get the invitation for the oath ceremony. It was not an afterthought, I had answered 'no' to the question when asked if I were willing to bear arms, and the officer brought it up during the interview. I had to sign a separate paper stating I did not want to bear arms based on my belief. When it took so long to get the oath ceremony letter I did some more research online and saw that you are allowed to say no, but that you need a statement or affidavit from a priest, or a statement about your belief that it is deeply held etc.. I figured writing a statement afterwards wouldn't hurt, so I did, and uploaded it. That did help; I got the notice that my invitation to the oath ceremony was sent out the next morning.

My advice to those that hold beliefs like I do is to just go with a yes to all answers, unless you are willing to wait longer 😉 - if you are ever asked to take up arms you can still say no. I think. Anyway, they are strange questions but form part of the whole thing. In my case I was 100% against bearing arms so I did what I did.

I would not upload a statement as an afterthought if you answered yes to the question. That will be very confusing. Unless you are willing to explain all the ins and outs.

Anyway, I don't think it hurts to upload any extra evidence seen that they did take action right after I did!
