Pending AOS - Got a SSN but not the card

So we applied for the SSN before the K1 visa or I-94 expired. However there was a mailing mishap and we never got the card they sent us, so we sent the I-485 with the SSN blank. I have gone back to SSA and they tell us that even though he has a SSN now, they will not mail us a replacement card since the I-94 is now expired. I asked them to at least tell me what the number is, and she wrote it down on a sticky note for me.

Now I have a few concerns:

1) Will we be able to get a SSA-L676 Refusal To Process SSN Application and use that to get a MD driver's license

2) Should I update USCIS for the I-485 that we now know what his SSN is even though I don't have a card to show them

3) Will we be able to get a bank account/credit card/etc with just the number and no card

OK well I tried to call the main SSA line to make an appointment to get the SSA-L676 and they said they usually don't make appointment but since I "insist" they could get me one for 2 months out, or he could transfer me to the local office to ask. He transferred me and they said they don't do appointments for Social Security cards. Then he said the earliest one is next month. Then he said he could get me one next week but not at 12pm since there is no 12pm slot. So I got a 11am appointment for next week.

Just goes to show you they can be intentionally dishonest until you push them to get what you want.

He also said if we came in before and were told we couldn't get the card, what happened to that denial letter? I said I don't know, I never got it. I think the clerk before never bothered putting in our paperwork. She just took one look at his I-94 and said "No you can't have a replacement card, bye" and never completed his official application in the system for us to get a denial letter. So make sure you insist that you get a denial letter if they tell you you can't have a card.

May be, MD provides DLs even to immigrants without valid immigration documents.

Not required.

Yes, they usually don’t ask for actual SS card. Some may.
