I agree but "Correspondence was received" like I said most cases didn't get that notification. I have refreshed daily. Their status changed from "Case was received" from back from October to 2019 to "Card is being produced".

I think it must mean something that only around 30% of the cases had their status changed to "Correspondence was received" and my theory is that those are the people who do not have N400 pending as well, like myself, and USCIS can archive these files for now, let them get dusty because there is no urgency to approved these cases. That's why I would love to have a confirmation form anyone who got their 10 year GC without filing for N400 from around end of 2019.

lol you are trying to logicalize such a chaotic process.

99.9% it doesn't mean anything, and hell, it could be just a system glitch. Filing N400 doesn't change the needle until it goes to the local office for an interview, where they can request your I-751 file, even if, some people recently been complaining about refusal of combo interviews. If you file N400, AND I-751 gets approved 3 months later, it has nothing to do with you N400. The Processing Centers, MSC, and Local offices are not really working together, and I-751 is manual process, and USCIS don't really put cases aside because you filed for Citizenship since cases are literally in piles, in baskets, waiting for an officer to collect them. If they want to put your case aside, they will take hours to manually put it aside, which is something they ain't doing.

My 0.02 for you is benchmarking your case to other cases is ridiculous, and will stress you out if other cases around you are approved and yours is not even though, again, it is not by order. USCIS doesn't work  by logical in a clear system, it is just a mess mess mess. But good luck with your research.

I think I have a reason to be concerned here and I am not just freaking out. I do want to know where I am standing - if I should file for citizenship right now knowing it will escalates my 10 year GC I would. I am already at 20 months since I filed, already on my I551 stamp, my license is expired, and living year by year with a temporary GC is not easy. I just want to get this process that started almost 5 years ago over with.

I have seen some files that have been stuck with ""Correspondence was received" for more than a month now. Some cases eventually turn into "RFE" notice but a lot of them are just.. stuck. While other cases with same filing dates that I found or even reported in this thread just get approved by filing date.

I am trying to figure out why is that the case and what can I do to get myself and others who have filed 18+ months ago and are in the "Correspondence was received" status get unblocked.

Thanks!

@usaalltheway I would just go ahead and apply for naturalization. USCIS strives to process and adjudicate N-400s within 180 days. Thus, it makes sense that would prompt them to process your I-751. Of course, there really isn't a way to know what really happens behind the scenes at USCIS. :)

Looks like you guys know your stuff. I am going to wait until my case is outside of processing times (should be in a month in a half, unless the processing time window will increase again) and then see what's up. I am worried filing for N400 right now while my case is in "Correspondence was received" status might actually delay that case. I just don't want to end up in limbo.

You are right, but some people fear of that possible combo interview if you are in a big city where local office is clogged as it might drag the I-751 months more, so that is a good keep in mind. Either way, no one can predict. Some people get smooth process, others not very lol.

The general advice is always, if you are eligible for citizenship, just go ahead and apply as soon as you can and get it done with...

Ladies and Gents,

Being a Mid Nov 2019 filer, I got the news I have been waiting for about 19 months (587 days) today.

New card being produced.

No interview or RFE

Submitted about 6 inches thick paper stack of evidence. And the biggest evidence being our child.

Good luck to all of you!

I hate you lol. Still waiting since they received my case Nov. 8, 2019.

Seriously, which god did I piss off to get stuck with Potomac? Lol

All seriousness, congrats!

I understand the frustration...so many of us have waited their turn yet filers after our PD were approved.

I can only say its a matter of luck whose file they pick from the stack.

I hope you get your approval soon!

It's probably a combination of factors. VJ's estimated processing times rely on data available to VJ; ie., members who updated their timelines. Not everyone does. USCIS processing times take into account all data available and VJ's don't.

Say that VJ shows 10 cases filed in 2018 that are still pending. Then, today those cases get approved. To VJ, USCIS is done with 2018 and VJ's processing times would drop. However, those 10 cases are only a portion of all the cases still pending.

Because USCIS processing times take all the data into account, we can expect their processing times will be higher/longer and likely, more accurate, too. Unless someone at the Potomac Service Center grabs cases from the wrong pile, we are looking at 20 to 22 months. :)

I totally agree with your assessment - at this point I'm just wondering who these people are who are reporting quicker processing times for YSC and bringing the VJ average down. Maybe I'm still misunderstanding how exactly this works, but it seems like to bring the average down to 12-13 months, a significant number of VJ users would have to be reporting significantly shorter times than what we're seeing from USCIS, and on this thread.

To be clear, I'm fully resigned to the 20-22 month+ wait. It's just weird getting emails from VJ every month saying the processing time is dropping when all other evidence points in the opposite direction.

Oh gotcha. I think I see where my explanation fell short. I am speculating that people are not reporting shorter processing times. I am proposing that those who have been waiting the longest are reporting their approvals. And there is a greater number of those than people who just filed.

Just like you, we have accepted it is just going to take a long time.

The whole thing is just messy for a lack of better words. There you have texas service center approving people within 4 months when there are still people from 2018 waiting - apparently. Same for Nebraska, they still have folks from 2019 waiting and they're approving January and February 2021 filers.

Right. It certainly seems messy. I wouldn't be concerned about the processing times for the I-751 if it weren't for the fact that it might also hold up processing on naturalization. That could end up mattering quite a lot for me, though I know I'm not alone in this.

It's hard to say if that is the case, though. USCIS strives to process N-400s within 180 days. There is no processing time limit for the I-751. Thus, N-400s are a priority. In many cases, filing the N-400 while the I-751 is pending may actually speed up the process. After all, the officer processing the N-400 cannot proceed unless the I-751 is dealt with. Then you get into combo interviews and the USCIS not delivering the I-751 to the field office in a timely manner, etc. But in theory, it seems like filing the N-400 would add urgency to your I-751.

It’s effing stupid how the process works. I almost think I’d have better odds at winning Powerball/MagaMillions than getting my 751 approved.

My I751 case was finally approved today 🎇😄! Received date is October 28, 2019.

Status was changed to New Card Is Being Produced after having Correspondence Was Received And USCIS Is Reviewing It for a month.

Did not file for citizenship.

Good luck everyone and thanks for the help!
