Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot?!?!  Now it’s 20-22 months?!?! This is beyond ridiculous!

This is ridiculous indeed.
I submitted a request for my case being out of processing times a few days ago and I am supposed to receive a reply by July 9th. Now that they increased the wait, i feel like my request is going to do nothing and get nowhere.

When I applied in 2019, It was between 12-16 months, maybe 14-16 range to be specific. Recently it been just going up and down between 17-24 months, which is crazy.

And there is always the human error factor. For example, Nebraska just updated their processing times to 16 to 31 months. Before, they were 8 to maybe 16 (not sure). However, they were definitely not 5 months. So yesterday, a LIN filer from January 2021 got approved and good for them! But that tells you that somewhere there is an officer who grabbed the wrong pile and is approving 2021 cases when they clearly still have cases laying around from 12/7/2018. The current receipt case inquiry date is 12/06/2018. 🤓

Anyone have any idea why VJ’s estimated processing times for Potomac keep getting shorter? Just had mine updated to June 2022, which would be 12-13 months. But from everything I read here and on the USCIS website, actual processing times seem to be trending upwards. What gives?

29-Oct-2017: Filed I-129f

18-Sep-2018: Interview at US Embassy in London. K-1 Visa Approved!

28-Sep-2018: Entered US on K-1 Visa

02-Oct-2018: Married!

05-Oct-2018: Filed I-485, I-765, and I-131 (AoS, EAD, & AP)

01-Nov-2018: Biometrics appointment at USCIS Phoenix Field Office

22-Mar-2019: EAD/AP approved

25-Jun-2019: Interview at USCIS Virginia - Washington Field Office

27-Jul-2019: Green Card (AoS) approved

12-May-2021: Filed I-751 - Potomac Service Center

03-Nov-2022: Filed N-400 - Baltimore Field Office

02-May 2023: Naturalization interview scheduled

06-Jun 2023: Naturalization interview - Baltimore Field Office - Cancelled as I-751 had not been processed

11-Jan 2024: N-400 Status Updated to "Case is Being Actively Reviewed by USCIS"

01-Feb 2024: I-751 approved

It's probably a combination of factors. VJ's estimated processing times rely on data available to VJ; ie., members who updated their timelines. Not everyone does. USCIS processing times take into account all data available and VJ's don't.

Say that VJ shows 10 cases filed in 2018 that are still pending. Then, today those cases get approved. To VJ, USCIS is done with 2018 and VJ's processing times would drop. However, those 10 cases are only a portion of all the cases still pending.

Because USCIS processing times take all the data into account, we can expect their processing times will be higher/longer and likely, more accurate, too. Unless someone at the Potomac Service Center grabs cases from the wrong pile, we are looking at 20 to 22 months. :)

My personal opinion for the reason for the long wait times to process the I-751 ROC is that it's not a priority.  The person has a Green Card, they received an 18-month extension and, if necessary, can just get another extension. You're still good and while waiting can file for citizenship if you so desire. Also, they know that most of the requests will be approved so granting the extensions is not really harmful. Of course, perhaps they could find a way to screen and fast track the obvious approvals to reduce backlogs and processing time but again i just think they don't see it as a priority and don't really care.

Any October or November 2019 filers got their 10 years GC without filing for N400? I was running through hundreds of receipt numbers around mine a few weeks ago, and tracked them daily. A lot of them who filed around my date (the last week of October of 2019) for I751 had their file change to "Card is being produced" and then "Card is being shipped". But my case, and around 30% of the other cases their status changed to "Correspondence Was Received And USCIS Is Reviewing It" and stuck since. I have even found other cases from probably before mine that still had that status for months, which scares me.

If you filed October 2019, then your case is not outside processing times yet. The current case inquiry receipt date is 9-17-2019. I would give it another month or so. :)

Just updated today, New card is being produced, no interview.  Filed back in November 5, 2019.  So they are starting on November folks.

Filed N-400 this past November 2020.

Correspondence was received is either a RFE response, or they are actually working on the case. USCIS is not systematic. It is by order. Some fillers from 2021 were approved. It is all luck. Your case could be approved tomorrow or next year, no one knows.

I agree but "Correspondence was received" like I said most cases didn't get that notification. I have refreshed daily. Their status changed from "Case was received" from back from October of 2019 to "Card is being produced" 2-3 weeks ago.

I think it must mean something that only around 30% of the cases had their status changed to "Correspondence was received" and my theory is that those are the people who do not have N400 pending as well, like myself, and USCIS can archive these files for now, let them get dusty because there is no urgency to approved these cases. That's why I would love to have a confirmation form anyone who got their 10 year GC without filing for N400 from around end of 2019.

I think I have a reason to be concerned here and I am not just freaking out. I do want to know where I am standing - if I should file for citizenship right now knowing it will escalates my 10 year GC I would. I am already at 20 months since I filed, already on my I551 stamp, my license is expired, and living year by year with a temporary GC is not easy. I just want to get this process that started almost 5 years ago over with.

I have seen some files that have been stuck with ""Correspondence was received" for more than a month now. Some cases eventually turn into "RFE" notice but a lot of them are just.. stuck. While other cases with same filing dates that I found or even reported in this thread just get approved by filing date.

I am trying to figure out why is that the case and what can I do to get myself and others who have filed 18+ months ago and are in the "Correspondence was received" status get unblocked.

Thanks!
