Unless you need to be interviewed, or you applied for N-400 with I-751 pending, usually the case is processed at service center. If you need an interview, your case gets transferred to local field office.

That is very good Info!  Let's see if things change when I apply for N-400 next year

@OldUser and @Bavarian91

Yes, I tell myself that all the time.  There is no logic and pattern to USCIS.  There are too many factors and they just do what they want.  LOL

Sometimes I just get bored and try to "figure it out".

For those of us that are still waiting, could you please respond to this post indicating your original visa?

Our was a K1.

I am beginning to think that throughout the service centers, CR1s and cases that did not do AOS within the states are getting approved faster.  I just saw people from August 2022 and September 2022 (falling within that 6-7 months goal USCIS had mentioned a few months earlier) that were approved from different service centers, BUT I believe all of them were CR1s/IR1s.  Even the ones that are receiving movement around the same month (i.e. January 2022 filers), it appears the CR1s get interview and things prior to those of us that adjusted within the USA from a different visa (K1, F1, etc.).

Original visa here was a CR1. I'm still waiting for I-751 approval at Potomac after 25 months. So, I don't think your theory holds true.

Example on why we are hesitant to apply for N400 right at the one year mark of our 751:

2 and a half weeks on from filing my N-400 and was hoping that, like many others, my I-751 file would be transferred to NBC shortly after filing, but, so far, nothing has moved. Pretty disheartening considering that wait times are expected to go up even further soon as USCIS resources are going to be shifted to the situation at the Mexican border at the moment. Guess I just have to wait some more!

I applied N400 last year in July and yet my I-751 was never transferred to date. I wouldn’t be disheartened since it’s not the same journey for everyone.

Have you been scheduled for interview for the N-400 yet?

I'm sorry but your argument does not make much sense. Avg wait time in potomac is 28 months, this number is very likely to increase with the 48 months extensions and how the agency does not care about I751 at this point. The average wait time according to VJ for N400 is around 163 days for the past 3 months. At worst there will be a one month limbo state added to your wait time for N400 because of your pending I751 but I don't think there is ANY valid reason that applying for N400 would delay anything at this point. This may have been true 7 years ago or so when I751 would take 6 months max, but at this point I think uscis cares about getting as many new "Americans" as they can to somehow boost their immigrant loving image and distance themsevlves from the Trump days. The N400 plays into this narrative hence why you see a dramatic decrease in the processing times but removing conditions has nothing to do with this issue hence why its been deprioritized.

I did not say it would delay it even further.  Nor did I say that I am advising (or will be doing it myself) to wait the 28 months at Potomac.  My argument is with applying right at the one year mark.  Also, unlike most people here on VJ, my posts are only an opinion and I do not try to pass them as "absolute truths".  But, I do share other scenarios because people should see all the things that are happening.  Two things can be true at the same time.  I was just saying that there isn't a guarantee that it will "shake loose" the 751 as quickly as it has for others at other service centers.

@Rocio0010 is an example.  When she compares her case to the January 2022 751 filers and N400 January/February 2023 from across VJ (some that are at the exact same service center and FO as hers BTW), she has seen others move and hers hasn't.

Yep, unfortunately that is true. My case is a good example of someone applying under the three year rule, 90 days before the third anniversary of my green card, yet absolutely nothing moved. The only thing I have is that I had to go in for a biometric appointment, and case is being actively reviewed since. Meanwhile, others that applied with the five year rule or as an IR-1 (no 751 involved) have been moving along left and right. Same city, same FO, and in one case, same SC for the 751. So if you are in my situation, the 751 did not shake loose at all.

People here are quick to say that the N400 is quick, and that it will shake lose the 751... Well, in my case, it didn't

I don't really see how this logic makes sense, there are three options the way I see it:

  1. Don't file N400 and wait forever (I think 40 months or so would make sense at this point)
  2. File N400 at the three year mark and wait maximum of 1 year (talking worst cases here)
  3. File N400 at 5 year mark

I still think the N400 option would be the best one. If it does not DELAY your I751 then what do you have to lose?

I am not presenting any “logic” for you to argue. What I’m saying is that people say that the 751 will be looked at after you file for the N400 as an absolute truth, and to me it’s been far from that .
