I-751 petitions are slow everywhere nowadays, because N-400 and other cases are prioritized. If people around your case are approved, it could be a matter of weeks / few months to get your case approved. But there's no guarantees. You may be waiting way longer.

Ya, it’s already been over 3months since other people got approved around me. Now, I’m thinking that USCIS approves cases randomly instead of in order.

what’s the point of prioritizing and possibly approving N400 when the applicant’s I751 is still pending?

Yes, they approve cases somewhat randomly or based on algorithm we don't know about.

Many people can apply for N-400, many of them never had I-751 or have it approved already. Don't ask why as I don't know what the logic is, but it's the fact.

My wife was scheduled for her citizenship interview before her green card was approved.  Her I751 status remained "transferred to another office to speed processing" from December 2021 to 3 weeks after her citizenship was approved in January 2023.  Her I751 online status and approval letter she received soon after says she will not get a new green card because she already passed the citizenship interview.  Makes me want to ask for a $680 refund!

My wife's son applied for his 10 year green card separately because he arrived in the U.S. after his mom.  He just got his 4-year extension letter last week.  He filed his I-751 in May 2021 and it was never transferred to speed processing.  He will probably have his U.S. passport (through his mother's naturalization) this summer - long before he would have ever gotten the green card through Potomac. 😬

There is a pretty good post from a former USCIS officer on Reddit on why USCIS is so slow.  It doesn't mention Potomac specifically but I believe his reasons fit in that category.  You can find it on the r/uscis Reddit group.  I believed them pinned the post so its at the top.

This doesn't apply to most of us.  But, if anyone is near that 3 year mark or something like that, this post might be helpful:

Maybe it is worth the shot if any of you are not wanting to file for citizenship yet but are near three years or above it.

I know there are different thoughts and opinions on the whole filing for N400 to shake the I751 lose.  But, I also know there are people that are not wanting to go that route or have a different personal preference, so this would be another way of getting some answer if you are around 3+ years, especially those of us at Potomac.

I received my 48-month greencard extension mail today.

I saw the mail in my USPS Informed Delivery email and we were so nervous about it because we don't know what could they be sending me a month after my N400 was scheduled. I thought it was an RFE so I went in my USCIS account to see if there was any sent correspondence--nothing!

USCIS mail could make you sad, mad, and/or glad all at the same time,. LOL.

Apr 13, 2024: Sent to NVC

Apr 18, 2024: Received email fr NVC and paid the AOS/IV fee

Apr 25, 2024: Uploaded Civil and Financial documents

May 1, 2024: Documents accepted except for marriage certificate (unreadable) and death certificate (wrong file)

May 3, 2024: Ordered marriage certificate and death certificate from PSA online

May 9, 2024: Received email from PSA that marriage cert is blurred/eligible--will need 15 more days for reverification

We received the 48-months extension.

Still in for the long haul, but glad we don’t have to worry about the stamp for now.

Latest processing time estimate update shows Potomac is taking 28 months to complete 80% of I-751s (up from 26.5 last month)… keeps going up…

They like to keep moving the goalposts. Same with these 48 month extension letters - it allows them to leave our I-751s to gather dust. Maybe one day we'll all get approved...

ROC Timeline:

Date format is MM/DD/YY

05/16/19 - Green Card Issue Date

03/10/21 - Sent ROC paperwork to Phoenix, AZ | USPS 2-Day Shipping

04/07/21 - NOA1 Text Messages Received

Another interesting observation is that many recently approved WAC I-751s are stuck on "Case Approved" status. E.g. green card is not yet produced. Card production used to happen almost instantly after approval, maybe a matter of few days at worst. Now I see cases approved few weeks ago not having cards produced. Somebody also complained about replacement card I-90 not being produced after case is approved. I wonder whether the bottleneck in I-751 is simply card production 😃 E.g. USCIS don't want to approve cases as fast because card production is a bottleneck.

This is only my wild theory, not sure if it's any accurate.

Hmm now that you mention it, I did see something recently about them updating the green card - might be that causing the delays in production. Especially considering it took them a while to send out the new extension letters and this was released at the same time;

Definitely going to hope it's that causing the extended delays but...it's also USCIS. 😂
