My interview will occur before I get my EAD; we do not have any joint accounts etc.

What could I bring to show our marriage is legit? My spouse is happy to pay the bills etc. and isn't keen on having joint assets.

You are not on any type of insurance documents, leases, anything? Do you even have a SSN yet?

phone plan

Medical insurance

Car insurance

Drivers licenses showing both your address.

We had a form my wife had to turn in at work to get me eligible for some of her perks.

Tax returns.

forms showing the other as emergency contact.

You cannot provide what you do not have.

Wedding ring receipts.

I just got approved for the N-400 without a joint account during any point of the journey. Both of us have had bad experiences with that in the past and we just did not want it. They asked us why at the ROC interview (I did not have an AOS interview) and when we explained it, it was fine.

I do not wear a wedding ring (can't stand to have something around my finger) It was never asked about.

We did a courthouse wedding without pictures. Was not mentioned either.

I think they are looking more into the way you both interact than really look at the evidence. Do you finish each other sentences. Does one correct the other instantly if either gives an incorrect or incomplete answer. Do you answer questions in a natural way or does it appear scripted. It's close to impossible to fake those things. And the interview does not flow natural that is when the evidence becomes more important.

You are going to be nervous, they know you are. But really, if you are honest and truthful you are fine 99% of the time.

And in my best Afrikaans;

Maak je nie druk nie.

(Hope that was right😎)

Without any commingled finances at all, will be a challenge.  The checklist of documents to bring on the AOS appointment letter is really useful.

I am on my spouse's health insurance at his work.. and I could get his son, who lives with us, to write an affidavit vouching for our marriage?

I dont have EAD or drivers license yet. I have SSN but in my old name, can only change to my married name once I bring in my EAD

Im on my husband's health insurance at his work; I have a SSN but can only change my last name once I have EAD. I could get my stepson, who is 20 and lives with us, to write an affidavit vouching for our marriage?

Affidavits are not said to be good evidence.  What USCIS really wants to see is merging of the lives of married people:  evidence that your finances and legal stuff are commingled, evidence that you live at the same residence, etc.

The health insurance is good.  Other examples would be joint property/other assets, joint vehicle ownership, POA/wills, named as beneficiaries to retirement and other accounts.
