FORT WORTH -- Dallas police said a man tried to steal a donation jar at a hospital on Wednesday.

Police said Kenneth Rice took a jar set aside for children with serious burns off a desk at Parkland Memorial Hospital and ran. They said an employee ran after Rice and even jumped on a bus after him.

Rice was arrested, according to police, and the $27 was recovered.

Can I nominate #2 ?? It's an oldie but a goodie!

A 35-year-old Saint John man has to spend six months in jail for stealing rings from a woman's body at a funeral home. Clifford Dempster took two rings, valued at more than $1,000.

He's an alcoholic. He sold the jewellery for $15 and spent the money on booze.

Dempster visited a funeral home Wednesday. Soon after, a daughter of the dead woman noticed the rings were missing from her mother's hands.

Dempster had been seen paying his respects. He was identified by the funeral home manager as a possible suspect.

Police picked him up and Dempster admitted to stealing the rings. One of them has been recovered.

#3 Nomination -

The theft of a Children's Wish Foundation donation box put an eastern P.E.I. man in jail Thursday.

'You certainly stoop to a low level.'

— Judge Nancy OrrLloyd Wilfred Ellis, 29, stole the box from the counter of a gas station in Murray River in January. He was caught on a security camera and ended up in court in Georgetown.

Ellis told authorities there was only $4 in the box and that he was embarrassed.

"Let's see how embarrassed you are," provincial court Judge Nancy Orr said during sentencing.

"How much money do you have on you?"

Ellis pulled $25 out of his pocket, and Orr told him he'd just made a donation to the Children's Wish Foundation. She sentenced Ellis to 15 days in jail and a year on probation. Orr also ordered him to write a letter of apology to the charity.

Nomination # 4

Thieves are stealing money from a donation box at the Silent Witness Memorial in Gander.

The memorial on the edge of Gander Lake marks the worst air disaster on Canadian soil – the Arrow Air crash that killed 256 U.S. soldiers and crew in December 1985.

Vandals have broken into the box half a dozen times in the last two years and stolen thousands of dollars in money that's supposed to help the Gander fire department maintain the site.

In the latest theft, the steel donation box was cut from its mounting.

Fire Chief Dave Brett sees the memorial as a grave site. He finds the thefts disturbing.

Wow all for $27.

I had to observe a court case a few years back (part of journalism studies) and a guy was jailed for 6 months for stealing a potted plant and then pulling a knife on the policeman who chased him down.

Idiot.

saw a guy in prison in kansas....got revoked parole, cause they saw he had a tail light out on his car..violated his parole..

he was an african-american low iq male, who was incarcerated for kidnapping (for pulling on his white girlfriend's arm in a store)led to kidnapping conviction.got 8-life...

parole after 6 years..revoked after 3 weeks..did another 13 months

that is why universal sentencing is needed in states..so, a small town or county cannot impose sanctions that are not justified
