Note that the Philippines has now banned all inbound travel originating in China, Hong Kong, or Macau and that essentially means that all flights to and from those places have been canceled.  While this should not significantly affect travel from or too the USA I would advise avoiding any flights that connect thru China or it's SARs.  Most airlines have canceled flights until Feb 29th.

Also if your Significant other is a OFW or Philippine Citizen in China, Hong Kong or Macau it will be very difficult for them to get back to the Philippines or if they are in the Philippines then not possible to get back to Hong Kong, China, Macau as the Philippine Gov. has banned travel by it's citizens to those destinations.  Be careful and aware if you have travel plans in the near future to the Philippines

I usually connect through HK too, but lately I find connecting through South Korea much easier and less expensive.

I have just been taking the torture flight from LAX to Manila the last three or four times....Ughh...We are going back together in April. I really, really hate that trip. I am trying to convince my wife to go back next year alone. Fat chance....

Finally done...

I have not taken that flight in a long time. I remember they used to stop in Hawaii for fuel, then later on Guam.

It was a 747, but they packed liked 600 people in. I'm sure they were way over weight to make it direct.

On United . . . It was a pain.   Now they fly 737 between Guam, MNL and Tokyo. :(

PAL does fly LAX-MNL and the seat pitch is not for Kanos

My wife, who is Filipino , our daughter who is US-PH dual citizen, and myself are going to davao, april 1st-26th and a few days in hong kong are now a little flustered. Of course we booked this last October before any of this, and Cathay Pacific is playing things close to the chest. Waiting to see if the Philippines will lift the HK portion of the ban, or if cathay will rebook us on philippine air or japan air upon getting closer, or if we will just have to cancel. Annoying, though it is a little under 2 months away.

Don't wait for any kind of rebook.  Any seats that would be available on other carriers are likely to be gone

YMMV
