My husband said he can't put me on his health until I have a SSN, is that true?

AP and EAD both approved last. Week but not sent yet.

Longing to work just to have some human interaction. My husband's family haven't been particularly kind to me and I've been here almost a year. People think they got it rough isolating for 3 months, I feel like ive basically done 12 😔

Not true. They need to ask for it but you don't have to have one. He probably needs to escalate it till he finds somebody who knows how it's done.

From the government: "You should advise your coverage provider that you do not have an SSN or TIN and give them the date of birth for each covered individual." https://www.irs.gov/affordable-care-act/questions-and-answers-about-reporting-social-security-numbers-to-your-health-insurance-company

Hi guys! Maybe you can help me. I am mildly freaking out here. Got my EAD/AP approved on 06/16 and since then nothing from USCIS. Not even a Notice of Approval. I got, however, my Social Security Card in the mail yesterday. I should start a job on July 1st. I really don’t know what to do. I mean I get that I don’t have the Combo Card right away but not even a notice of approval? Did this happen to anyone else (especially from the 06/16 approved ppl)?

It’s alright it seems common these days as they are running a little bit slower with most processes. Even the social security office is moving quicker. My wife was approved the same time as you and same thing. She got her social security card but no EAD card yet. However, she got approved on 17th and did get the receipt.

There was a time when the EAD would arrive and then the social security card. However this seems like it will be quite common now since they are going to furlough a bunch of workers unless Congress bails them out by allowing them to spike their fees for a bunch of forms and stop some of the fees being waived when you bundle.

plus in their message they tell you give until certain time to contact them if you don’t receive. Everything it’s okay if you weren’t approved for some reason you wouldn’t be getting a social lol. Uscis sends that information to the card producer and social security office.

Thank you so much for your reassuring answer! The whole process is just so nerve wrecking. I was over the moon when I saw the approval notice, but now I am a mess again because I am afraid they take their time with the EAD and I can’t start my job. The cherry on top is that informed delivery suddenly stopped working this week so I must rely on the USCIS entirely 🙈

Have anyone receive their SS card before the combo card? We’ve been approved since 6/17/2020 and the ss card came in the mail today but still no update on the combo card. Last update is “we ordered you a new card” I’m wondering when will

they actually send it.

Had the exact same experience. Have been approved one day before you and ss card came this week. Status stuck at “has been approved”. I didn’t even get a notice of approval, let alone the card itself.

ooh wow! We got our approval notices. Hope they'll send the card off this week because hubby applied to a job and most likely will be called in for an interview smh. I would hate for them to call him and he can't due to not having the card in hand. Lets keep each other updated

I would send USCIS a letter explaining that the SS department wants you to mail them the Card and ask them if there is anyway they can order the SS number from their side given the covid circumstances.    They should be able to submit tue request from there side and save the risk.    Or call them and discuss what they can do from their side as if you would have checked the box originally.

Thanks for your response! Unfortunately in the state of Texas a social security number is a must to obtain a drivers license. And we did ask about sending a photocopy of the EAD, they said that wouldn’t be acceptable. They recommended sending a pre-addressed, stamped envelope along with the EAD to ensure it is to be returned right away, but still, I don’t trust it.

I don’t know how accurate/trustworthy this tracker is, but according to the graph they are currently shipping out June 15th approvals. https://opttimeline.com ( you have to choose shipping status). So I’m keeping my hopes up that we get our cards next week. As for my Notices of Approval, I just accepted they are lost and I’ll request a duplicate when the deadline has passed.

This looks like it is for OPT EADs rather than AOS EADs. From what I remember when I was on OPT the processing times (and potentially the office handling the cases?) were different.
