Uh oh... i read an article from the NY times the other day https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/17/us/immigration-agency-uscis-budget.html and posted it, thought it was all just conjecture at the moment as I didnt think a big US government agency would actually lay off people.. this is bad bad news...

Oh no no noooo this isn’t good! Okay let’s try and get some positive thoughts on this.. i mean I feel bad for anyone losing their jobs during this time but on a more selfish note: maybe just maybe there’s gonna be a crazy productivity wave during the next two weeks because everyone tries to get their performance up to keep their jobs! Idk I just want to stay optimistic  🌈🧡🙏

Just found someone on Twitter who was tweeting about working at the NBC and losing her job this coming Friday. Her response to me asking if this will lead to significantly increased processing times-

It definitely will. Prepare to wait months for a response of even for it to go through proper channels.

Just when I was thinking soon this long wait will be over as processing times have picked up significantly.

This is really distressing to hear. I feel bad for those 1000 people that have lost their jobs, but this is a service we have already paid for!

Oh no :( that doesn't sound good... 75 days ago our status switched to 'case is ready to be scheduled for an interview'. This means it is at the local office already, right? Just trying to figure out how this might affect our case. We have EAD/AP combo card already thanks to expedite.

ROC Timeline:

2023-02-20: Mailed package to Phoenix Lockbox with UPS Ground

2023-02-27: Package was delivered

2023-03-02: Received text that case was received with SRC case #

2023-03-03: Money order was cashed

2023-03-09: Received 48 months extension letter in mail

2023-05-20: Greencard expired

2024-10-04: Case Was Updated To Show Fingerprints Were Taken

2024-10-07: New Card Is Being Produced

You’re right! And yes, for anyone to lose their job during this time is terrible - but those laid off will likely be able to collect some sort of support or even find alternate employment. As for ppl like me - not only can I not work, I can’t access benefits to keep me and my family afloat.

Not a great opinion, I know, but it’s how I feel right now.

Are you fine then. It is the people waiting for EAD/AP that are screwed by this.

My first thought too. Though you never know how they move people/ workload around now. It could very well effect local offices too in the long run.

I agree. I get why they are doing this because I bet there have been very few applications since the lockdown but surely they still have enough work for at least a month. How can they suddenly decide they want to get rid of a 1000 employees then a week later it happens. Surely there's contracts in place ? I guess we won't have long to wait to see how this affects ...

I-485 Filing Date: Jan 23, 2020

Biometrics :Feb 26, 2020

I-765: Finger prints Taken

I-131 March 4, 2020: Fingerprints applied to your case

I-485: April 2, 2020: Case ready to be schedule for an interview

So we've received no update on the I-131- and I-765 since March! Been ready to be schedule for an interview also!! ugh Im getting frustrated because I'm due in July and wont be able to work so if my husband doesn't receive his work permit then we will be doomed!!! I'm wonder if we should try expedite, but also will they consider the fact that due to me having a baby soon will be a financial hardship?

Do it, today! Don't wait until they let go more people. Call USCIS, tell them you want to expedite because of financial hardship and don't explain anything further, not needed. Start applying and get a job offer so you can reply to their fax/letter right away. Do it even if it is just for the sake of getting EAD. Mention the baby in the cover letter when you send your job offer as proof of financial hardship. You have nothing to lose here. All the best!

Thank You so much.  Well I have a job now but when I have the baby I will be on unpaid maternity leave so I need my husbands EAD to get approved time now so he can start working. If none of us are working with a newborn smh! ugh

That's why he should start applying asap and then use the job offer letter for the expedite.
