Not really, but I wrote it in a way that it sounds like I do. I had an offer from a chemical company and I made up a nice story that they switched their production lines to disinfectant only due to Covid 19, and because of the sudden increase in production volume they need immediate help with [your field of expertise] that you have years of experience in while you were still in [your home country]. Be creative, guys :D

Im with you on that. Being creative is a must.

Thanks for your answer! Unfortunately, my job offer is not at all connected to that sector. :( Even with creativity ;)

This is insane! As Zsazsa said, call again and tell them 'Financial Hardship' as your reason for expedite. Don't give any additional details. From my experience the agents are reading from a script and let you pick an answer. Answer and be silent, wait for them to continue the conversation. We didn't have to prove financial hardship but I wrote something like 'I dont't want to feel my husband to have the burden of providing single income'. There are enough some sample cover letters on VJ.

I am a rather rigorous person and would even go as far and let one of the potential employers write you an offer. Tell them you have a greencard already (DO NOT bother explaining them what an EAD is!) so they will actually write it. I know it sounds harsh, but I have talked to many recruiters in the past weeks. They ask if I had a greencard and I replied yes, even though I have EAD only. In 99% of the cases they are not trying to figure out whether you actually have a greencard, they want to know if you are legally authorized to work without sponsorship. You will need the written offer for the expedite request, and if she can chose from several employers I would 'utilize' one of them to get the offer letter and ultimately the EAD. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

She’ll try to call again by June and try her luck. She’s kinda of hesitant to say yes she has the green card to the employers cause she knows she’ll get the job right away. Thank you for your inputs. Will let her know about that. It’s just that the agent asked her reason first and for most during the call so she said that. But she might try that “financial hardship”.

on another topic. Have you guys received the stimulus check? Did you receive twice since you guys filed IRS with your spouse? I filed but it was separately since my wife doesn't have the legal status yet. So the tax guy said to file it separately. Was wondering if you guys have the same situation.

I can't be sure because you didn't filled your timeline but if you got married in 2019 which I guess otherwise you wouldn't be able to file married you could have filed jointly as long as your wife had an SSN or ITIN. Being a resident for tax reasons is different than for immigration.

We filed separately too but for other reasons. My husband has gotten his check and I'll claim my part with the taxes for 2020

We filed jointly as soon as I got my SSN. Otherwise we would’ve gone for the ITIN but there were some extra steps.

My wife filing separately would’ve had to pay $500+ in taxes, but as we filed jointly she got $80+ back and all my foreign income was exempt.

Even better, she got the full $2400 on her bank account the first week they started sending them, so that went great.

@maferraric how's the job hunt going? Anything good this week?

@Letspaintcookies I got a rejection letter from Target. No news from the other grocery stores I’ve applied to.

After a almost a month, I’ve had just one interview with the RNC (aka Trump and friends) which I blew because I‘m more of a democrat and I applied by accident.

I also got contacted by a IT firm for a office position with rotational shifts, which sound very scary but of course I’m open for anything (except working to get Trump reelected). I responded with suggested interview dates/times but no answer yet.

So, very slow in general, one day I’m depressed and the next one I’m very optimistic.

Anybody hired yet? Good luck to y’all.

Expedite approved.
I don’t know if that means it’s good to go, or if they can still deny at this point.

I submitted my expedite request with a job offer last Friday. Fingers crossed.

Thank you to everyone who crossed their fingers and toes for me.

They do say that that's the moment when they make decision and it could be denied but I wouldn't expect that. New update in between? I had the card is being produced update about an hour later.

I know what you mean. I'm currently going through an interview process waiting for an invitation for a video interview. That would be the third... I told friends back home about it and they couldn't believe it. They expected it to be like in the movies, one interview and you start the next day 😁

After you applied for something or get a call back you're super euphoric and the next day you're back to waiting... kinda like the process here 😂

I see. We got married Dec 2019. When I filed my taxes the guy said it would be better to file separately cause my wife doesn’t have an income and her income from her previous job is in a foreign country. That was the reason as far as I can remember and he even checked it on his rule book. So I won’t have to pay more I guess. Is she going to get it too next year?

Hope everyone is doing well despite of what is happening.

It can take a little longer. My expedite request was approved yesterday afternoon and nothing so far!

He also should have checked if there is a tax treaty between the US and her country. If so, her foreign income would have gotten exempt up to 105k. So no taxes but a higher tax exempt. So if a tax treaty exist you would probably even gotten more out of it. Of course, without a treaty it might have been wise to file separately

@rocoblue

My wife and I got married in December too. We went to HR Block for assitance regarding the chance of filing jointly with foreing income.

The accountant helped us out with everything, I had to just tell her a good estimate on my earnings in Chile (2019), and she told us it would all be exempt on our joint filing.

Like I said in the other post, I saved my wife $500 in tax payment, and she got $80 back. Although HR Block charged us something in between $100-$200, it was totally worth it, considering we also got our stimulus money very fast.

Best of luck!
