On April 20, 2020, we accepted the fingerprint fee for your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, Receipt

We just saw this on Case Status, no mail yet.. Obviously the field offices are closed until June 4th right now. But for those who got their biometrics before Covid 19, is this usually when they would give you a Date for Biometrics in the mail?

For me this case status showed up instantly after they received my case. You didn't updated your timeline so I don't know where you are in the process but yea, that update usually happens right in the beginning and about two weeks later you receive the biometrics appointment letter. Of course the offices have to be open for that to happen.

How’s everyone holding up? I’m counting down the days until the offices reopen and going stir crazy in the meantime..

I had a quick query - does anyone have any experience with individual tax identification numbers? I’m trying to get everything situated to work and in order to work in schools I have to be Certified through the dept of Ed and to do this I need either a SSN or ITIN...

will it cause a massive hassle then when getting a SSN? Can an ITIN be used for bank account etc also?

This waiting game is crazy. My wife passed her NCLEX and has a lot of job offers because of the Covid thing but still can’t start to work because she still doesn’t have the EAD. She tried to call the USCIS for an expedite and told the agent she passed the NCLEX and that the employer couldn’t hire her because she doesn't have the EAD/Green card. The agent said it’s not an emergency case. But to think hospitals around the country are badly needing nurses. She just gave up answering calls and replying to emails for possible employers cause she can’t proceed to anything. All is in halt. Kind of frustrating for her cause she wanted to work.

does the timeline starts from the receipt date of the date when you got the fingerprinting done?

Whoa, wait! So they didn’t even let you request an expedite? Call back. Don’t get into specifics with the agent just answer the questions they have. They are not the ones who process expedite requests. Keep it simple until they ask for evidence.

Definitely call back! Also, fill out your timeline here so people can answer questions more accurately. It help, big time. 😊

This is insane! As Zsazsa said, call again and tell them 'Financial Hardship' as your reason for expedite. Don't give any additional details. From my experience the agents are reading from a script and let you pick an answer. Answer and be silent, wait for them to continue the conversation. We didn't have to prove financial hardship but I wrote something like 'I dont't want to feel my husband to have the burden of providing single income'. There are enough some sample cover letters on VJ.

I am a rather rigorous person and would even go as far and let one of the potential employers write you an offer. Tell them you have a greencard already (DO NOT bother explaining them what an EAD is!) so they will actually write it. I know it sounds harsh, but I have talked to many recruiters in the past weeks. They ask if I had a greencard and I replied yes, even though I have EAD only. In 99% of the cases they are not trying to figure out whether you actually have a greencard, they want to know if you are legally authorized to work without sponsorship. You will need the written offer for the expedite request, and if she can chose from several employers I would 'utilize' one of them to get the offer letter and ultimately the EAD. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

You’re exactly right. I stay away from the whole EAD conversation/explanation. It just creates uncertainty as no one understands. Also, I give as little info to the phone rep. Like you said, it’s all so scripted. Give the necessary info. I’m so sad that they were denied even submitting a request. Kinda mad about it, actually.

Did you have a job offer in the health care sector?

Not really, but I wrote it in a way that it sounds like I do. I had an offer from a chemical company and I made up a nice story that they switched their production lines to disinfectant only due to Covid 19, and because of the sudden increase in production volume they need immediate help with [your field of expertise] that you have years of experience in while you were still in [your home country]. Be creative, guys :D
