Hello self- help supporting group 🤗 my name is Diana and I'm going through a emotional rollercoaster. Anybody else experiencing this? One day everything is awesome and the next day it's just blah. We all knew this time is gonna be hard somedays but nobody expected this year to be so... let's say interesting.

I can relate. Just stay positive and try to stay occupied. I feel like I'm so obsessed with this whole process and it's only just started

I hear you!

It's all about perspective; for me, focusing on the positive on those days really gets me in check.

Same here! Taking it one day at a time.

I feel lucky to already have an EAD.

For those already looking for jobs, how is it going? I have a decent track of IT jobs (Data Analyst) in my country, but getting very little response regarding the job openings I’ve applied to.

I’m also applying to jobs in retail and grocery stores, but I don’t know how that is going to go in times like these. I’m wondering if its better to include all my professional experience in the application or just say I’ve never worked before.

Congrats on your EAD!!!

You should include all skills/experience you possess as it relates to the job you are applying for - assuming it is entry-level (even if you haven't worked in that specific industry). Now, although it isn't true in every case, almost everyone possesses the skills to facilitate an entry-level employment position without the hands-on experience and you want to make that point as it pertains to you when you apply.

Hi Diana, same here... my mood is very much depending on my job search progress. This week was pretty good as I had 4 interviews with 3 companies and spent a day at the beach doing nothing. As others have said: let's focus on the positive aspects!

I have used the time in isolation to leverage my LinkedIn skills. 6 weeks ago I created it from scratch (almost) and am now starting to get a ROI ;) recruiters are reaching out and I try to network my way into companies so I have contacts who can forward my resume to recruiters and hiring managers. This has worked twice last week, with Fortune 100, and I had interviews/phone screens scheduled within hours.

I attended a lot of webinars in the past 6 weeks and here are two of my favorite free resources:

1) General job search: https://www.js101.org/classes

2) LinkedIn: https://www.mellermarketing.com/events-presentations

I follow Professor Heather Austin, Linda Raynier and Madeline Mann (Self Made Millenial) on YouTube and find their content very helpful.

Are you using tools lile Jobscan.co to verify that the right keywords are mentioned on your resume? This has helped me to mirror the language of the company and to make sure that I don't miss anything. Good luck!

I am all for the self help sessions! Things have not worked out in or favor since being here. I feel like it’s just been hurdle after hurdle. I mean, we’ve successfully overcame 100% of them, but some days I don’t feel like I could take another hurdle. Other days I’m all “Bring it!”

So, I received a job offer today. I have submitted a request for expedite.

yes, most of you will remember that my first request was denied. I honestly feel like they denied that with a big “LOL”  Stamp on it *insert mental

pic here* Seriously. Last request was not requested due to a job offer, so hopefully this one comes out with a more favorable outcome.

Kindly asking that everyone cross their fingers, toes, and any other appendages they have for me as I realllllllly want/need this position.

Much hugs and support to everyone out there enduring this crazy process.

When my now husband immigrated to Canada 5 years ago it was so much easier. Glad I didn’t know how difficult this would be. Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

@Zsazsa everything I have is crossed. Also told the cats to do so but I don't know how good they'll do 😊🐈

@maferraric yea I applied for a merchandiser position at Home Depot. Never heard anything back but noticed that they put out the ad again. So either I'm too good or not good enough to stock shelves 🤷‍♀️

Thank you thank you!! 😘😘 @Letspaintcookies @maferraric

I had a few interviews with some entry level positions and basically both told me that I am “overqualified”. From an HR standpoint, they don’t want to hire overqualified people as they know that once something better comes along you’ll likely leave that job.

I have noticed a huge influx in opportunities since states are starting to open up. Something perfect is waiting for you guys!!

@Letspaintcookies Yeah I feel thats gonna be the case when applying on their websites (I did Giant Food and Target), I wouldn’t hire somebody with 6 years college degree and 4 years of working as an analyst. My guess is I’ll have to show up in a store and have an honest conversation with the manager. I’ll do that if another week goes by without interviews.

@nerdcouple Thanks, I feel like the keywords are there but I will follow your advice anyways. I just don’t know how big the demand is here in the DC area, I may be competing against hundreds of graduates from schools (and/or previous employers) that the recruiters actually recognize.

@Zsazsa Best of luck!
