FedEx received 1/14 and we received 3 text just a little bit ago.   So it looks like all three forms were accepted with 1 set of documentation.   I guess we could still receive a Request for Information.   Hopefully not....   🙂.

Fingers crossed! Good luck! :)

I just got 3 texts with receipt numbers from USCIS ☺️ They all start with MSCxxx. Does this indicate anything?

Btw: we used FedEx for shipping, so the G-1145 seems to work not only with USPS.

So today we reached the next milestone: our check was cashed. I cannot wait to receive the NOA in the mail so I can get my drivers license and buy a car :)

ROC Timeline:

2023-02-20: Mailed package to Phoenix Lockbox with UPS Ground

2023-02-27: Package was delivered

2023-03-02: Received text that case was received with SRC case #

2023-03-03: Money order was cashed

2023-03-09: Received 48 months extension letter in mail

2023-05-20: Greencard expired

2024-10-04: Case Was Updated To Show Fingerprints Were Taken

2024-10-07: New Card Is Being Produced

Do you not need a SSN to get a drivers license?

There isn’t a requirement to have a social security number to get a DL.   You can sign a statement that states you don’t have one.      If the 90 day’s of the admittance period is not closed, get a SS number ASAP.    After that window, you won’t be able to get one until you have the Work Authorization approved.

Drivers License:    If before the 90 days admittance stamp, you can get a DL that will expire on the date of your K1 90 day window expiration date and then renew the DL with little problem.    If you don’t get your DL within this window, then you can take your NOA of the 485 with you to the DL office and they can use it to start the process.     It will take 20 days or so for them to check the NOA through the SAVE immigration system.    Check the State department of safety policy where you live.   This may be different by state...   I’m located in TExas.

Establish Credit By:

1 - Beneficiary to be added on Petitioners Credit Card as an authorized user and as soon as you have a SS number, call the CC company and add it to the authorized user’s authorized signer profile so that the CC reporting starts hitting the credit reporting agencies and a credit file starts being established.

2.  Beneficiary to get a secured CC from Capital One...   see www.capitalone.com and look at secured cards for no credit / bad credit / restoring credit.,

3.   Add Beneficiary to the utility bills and send history with ss number to the credit agencies.

4.  Rent an apartment with a company that reports regularly to the credit agencies and have Beneficiary on the lease with their SS number.

I got one 12 year ago when I came to the US on a J1 visa.

American Express has a global transfer service. I could get a credit card from them without any credit history in the US, they took my German credit history as a reference and gave me a significant credit limit right away. So if anyone had an AmEx in their home country they might want to try that. SSN is required.

Glad that it is so easy in your State to get a DL but what you described only works in a very limited number of States.

First that depends on your state you reside in. Second, it depends on which DL you are aquiring.  There are currently 2 out there, one for driving, there is a new DL called the Real ID, that is going into effect October 2020(used for driving & traveling within the US), people have already started getting them, that one requires a SSN, passport and a proof of address.  if you are getting the DL that is used for just Driving then you should be fine. Again it all depends on your state of residence and their rules. In Connecticut and Illinois, you can get a license without a SSN by submitting a letter from the Social Security Administration stating you are ineligible for a SSN. in Cali they dont ask for such letter. so if you fill out your timeline and all your info, it would help us help you!!

I'm curious here: We didn't apply for SSN upon arrival (K1) and instead have filed the EAD/AP/AOS, requesting an SSN through EAD. Should we just wait for that to come back, or are we better off applying for another SSN right now? I don't know how the order of things works, or if we could accidentally end up with two SSNs and then be rejected later

If you're still in your 90 days go to the SSA and apply. That will be way faster than waiting for your EAD. And no worries, once the USCIS gets to your case and then find out that you already have a SSN they'll simply skip that step.

I checked the box too just in case and my card arrived two days after we had sent the packet.

Our packet was delivered 1/14, texts on 1/20 and check cashed today (1/22).

We also got my husband's SSN in the mail FINALLY after 5 weeks :)

He has his driving test on Friday.

WA state is lenient with DLs though, so our experience is different than others from states that have much more strict laws.
