Question, was that 6-7 weeks from when your EAD was approved or from when you received your EAD in the mail?

From I received it. It took only a few days from the approval to the card was in my mail box. But then over a month before the ssn card came:)

Thanks for letting me know @eborge. It's been about a month since we were approved. For some reason, waiting for the ssn has been more nerve-wracking than waiting for the EAD. Maybe because at least with the EAD, I was able to check the uscis site obsessively. But now we're just kind of waiting in the dark, just trusting that some work is happening with our ssn.

yeah it kinda stressed me too , I ended up calling them without much help (they couldnt check anything without my SSN haha!) but was told because of the covid- situation things takes a lot longer. And I think the usps is struggling too, so lets just hope youll see the envelope in a couple of weeks 🥰

You can call to local ssa office, and check -maybe they don’t see you in their database, so it means- you have to apply again (even if you ticked the box in I-765 form). Generally, according to their instruction- applicant have to send original of EAD card and passport ( copies not accepted)+ form ss-5 that can be downloaded from official ssa site. And in approx. 2 weeks should get ssn card in mail.

Yep, but like I said, they couldnt enter any database or any info about me without the  SSnumber. which I ofc didnt had and was the reason I called :)

Yeah I have an appt at my local SSA office for the 5th. Was hoping that my paperwork was processed properly and an SSN was issued as I requested. Called this morning, still no number generated. 🙄

Just an update: We receive the ssn card in the mail today 😄 About 10 days after the EAD, and a month since we got approved. I feel like I can finally relax now

SSN isn't needed to begin employment. Though, it can delay your paycheck. It'll depend on the employer's payroll department.

It's certainly possible to survive without a ssn, but I think it really makes everything much simpler when you have one.

I posted this somewhere else om this site and got no feed back so I thought I try it again here.

I went to the Department of Public Safety soon after I got my EAD back in June and was issued an Oklahoma ID card with no problems. I went back just yesterday to get my learner driver permit and I was told they'll have to wait for response from SAVE system and was given a case number. I entered the case information into the Save system website at https://save.uscis.gov/CaseCheck/CaseCheck.aspx and it indeed says there is up to 20 days wait for their review. Has anyone encountered something like this? Any easy fix?

They should receive the response immediately about your legal status, not sure why takes 20 days for yours.
