Hi everyone! I hope y’all are keeping safe, happy and healthy! 🙂

Update from me:  no news on my cancelled green card interview from April being rescheduled.

I FINALLY got my SSN changed to my married name and updated the SS office to let them know I have an EAD.

Backstory: I applied for a SSN within a week of arrival into the U.S rather than doing it with my GC forms - like I know some others have done! I knew I would need this number for a much smoother process when it came to opening a bank account, health insurance etc.  I got my card within a couple weeks but when I went back after I got married to change it into my new name, they couldn’t do it because my I-94 had expired so I kept failing the security clearance. I contacted them when I got my state ID and asked if I could use that but I was advised to come back again with my Greencard and they could definitely update using that. I decided to try again with my EAD on Thursday of last week and I got my updated SSN card in the mail today. 🙂🥳. Feeling very relieved to be one small step closer.

Next steps for me are trying to tackle getting my driving license (a nightmare with COVID closing down the DMV/DOL) and then hopefully I will get some news on the greencard!

This journey is teaching me patience, patience, patience!! 😃😉

Best of luck to everyone, wherever you are in this process and for whatever issue you are currently trying to resolve! It’s a very stressful time for us and also collectively so be KIND to yourself and to one another.

❤️🌈🌸

Quick question...     did you have to mail your change of name in or did you go to the office?    The SS office near us is closed so they are wanting us to mail original documentation which we refuse to do.    We don’t trust that we will ever get it back!!

My status finally updated to "card was mailed to me" in the afternoon exactly 21 days after "case was approved". It seems to be taking them three weeks to mail out the card for the majority of people here. Now I'm just waiting for a tracking number, but I'm not counting on it though. Hopefully 'informed delivery' will come in clutch.

Don't expect to get the tracking number from USCIS. My case just got updated card was picked up by post office today, even I already receive my card in hand three day ago.

Once you have a SS number, you can be added as an authorized user of your spouses credit cards and immediately start getting credit based on the payment history and metrics of their cards.    We did that and now I have a 775 credit profile which is really good.     With that score it is easier to apply for my own credit card if I wanted one and buy jointly....   house or car.

@Mwkaasj @qrk  are you still waiting for the EAD card in the mail? I checked your timelines, I'm just trying to estimate how long it takes to be mailed after approval both of you appear to have been approved since early June.

Tracking information for mine appeared in the ‘Packages’ section of Informed Delivery around 24 hours after my USCIS status changed to ‘Card was mailed to me’.

Were you able to walk in at the SSA? If so, that’s amazing! The offices are still closed in Houston 😭😭😭

No, I wasn’t able to walk in, the office is completely closed to the public. I just got incredibly lucky that the person on the phone agreed to help me as a special one off circumstance and got me an appointment with him specially that same day I phoned. I’m counting my blessings majorly for that help.

I hope Houston’s office open for you soon, or that you can figure out another way to get what you need taken care of at the SSA. Best of luck to you! 🌈

Just received my notice in the mail of approval of my I-765 and I-131 which occurred on July 13.

my children’s applications have still not been processed. I assumed that they would be done together. Anyone else have experience with this? How long after we’re they processed, if not at the same time? Thanks everyone.

Is it because of the Brazil proclamation? If so, he's exempt from Brazil, Schengen Area, UK and Ireland, Iran, and mainland China proclamations per Subsection 2(a)(ii): https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/proclamation-suspension-entry-immigrants-nonimmigrants-certain-additional-persons-pose-risk-transmitting-novel-coronavirus/
