Hello, we live with a roommate and everything is under his name: the rent and bills. We have our green card interview in about 10 days and I red that my roommate could write a letter saying that we live together and we split the rent etc...

Is that the best way to go or is there anything else I can do to help substantiate the fact we live in the same household?

thanks

ID cards, health insurance, bank accounts, credit cards, gym membership, life insurance info, cell phone bills.

You can ask your roommate to ask a landlord if he/she can add your name to the rental agreement.

It took our landlord 10 min to add my name to the rental agreement. We paid a little extra though.

I think that is a good idea. But you mean adding both our names to the rental agreement, right? Or adding just mine (sponsor) would be enough?

We are bringing:

-Health Insurance with both our names on it;

-Checking and Saving account in both our names;

-Tax extensions for 2019 in both our names;

-AT&T Phone bill with her name as second line ;

-Photo Album (32 Photos);

-Travel receipts;

-Notarized letter from roommate stating we live together and pay him half the rent, including receipts .

Maybe I should mention that we are applying from a K-1 Visa. I am not sure that makes any difference when doing an AOS process... I would assume it does a little bit.

We also applied for AOS in October, the interview was scheduled way ahead of what we were expecting - which is good but I thought I would have more time to collect evidence.

Yep, both of your names needs to be added.

Looks good.  If you can get the taxes filed that would help too.

Most AOS are from K1.  And it sounds like you haven;t been married long so they are not expecting a ton of evidence, especially if you don't have an EAD and are not working.

I think you are bringing more than enough for your interview. My wife couldn’t be added to my lease, but I added her to the renters insurance.

Yep, she hasn't received her work permit yet, the interview was scheduled before it was processed. And you are right, I will update my VJ timeline for sure! Right now.

For the record, we were approved! The letter from my roommate worked out just fine. The officer read the letter in full, asked a couple of questions about splitting the rent and seemed to agree with what was said. I didn't show anything else besides my roommate's ID (the letter was also notarized). I took a copy of the rental agreement but the officer didn't ask for it, so I didn't offer it. Good luck to everyone!

We live with my mom and everything is in her name. We don't have joint anything because everything in my town requires a SSN which he doesn't have. We just explained our situation and were still approved. As long as you look genuine, I don't think it'll be a problem.

Agreed, being honest and doing the best you can is always the answer.

Congrats! What all did you take as evidence of marriage?

We took:

-a notarized letter from our roommate stating that we live together and we split all costs.

-health insurance under both our names

-joint bank account statements ( both checking and savings)

-about 80 photos

-travel evidence (plane+train tickets, airbnb) under both our names

-credit card statements in both our names ( I added her to my credit card)

-phone bills with both our numbers together under the same account

-tax extension with both our social security numbers.
