The Department of State has provided significant assistance to Nigeria as it modernizes its border management capabilities, and the Government of Nigeria recognizes the importance of improving its information sharing with the United States. Nevertheless, these investments have not yet resulted in sufficient improvements in Nigeria’s information sharing with the United States for border and immigration screening and vetting.

(ii) The entry into the United States of nationals of Nigeria as immigrants, except as Special Immigrants whose eligibility is based on having provided assistance to the United States Government, is hereby suspended.

The wording there does only say immigrant visas. Wording on some countries on the prior proclamation says immigrant and non-immigrant.

At the same time, the prior proclamation does say things like "The entry into the United States of nationals of Yemen as immigrants, and as nonimmigrants on business (B-1), tourist (B-2), and business/tourist (B-1/B-2) visas, is hereby suspended.". This would imply K-1 is fine, but I'm fairly confident K-1s from Yemen are currently impacted.

I am optimistic that the ban won't last. I believe Nigeria govt will step up to this. This is a huge slap on our face. It's sad.

Just so devastated to wake up and find out that my husband might not make it here to me in the U.S. just because he happened to be a Nigerian! The only positive for us is that his interview is before the ban takes effect. However, we had planned for him to travel after March 21st so that we would be passed our 2 years wedding anniversary. Now he must come ASAP, if approved. 

 

I was so focused on him getting IR visa and 10 year Green Card when he got to America that I don't even know the steps to take now to get him Change of Status. Can someone assist me?

As outrageous and unfair as letting B2s in and not IR1s in. Especially B2s that wait 90 days and file AOS.

Technically, any visas issued before the ban goes into effect remains valid.

 

That said, personally I would not wait.

ROC sucks, but it's mostly just a waste of time, paper, and an application fee. Not the end of the world.

 

He does not need to change status. he needs to remove conditions. He applies within 90 days before the card expires (unless he gets divorced).
