The most curious thing happened to me. Had my interview in Lagos on the 8th of january. Was given the uscis immigrant fee form (with no DOS number) and the USCIS general info pamphlet for spouses at risk of abuse. The Interviewer told me my visa would be issued within two weeks after i submit a supplementary document. He said he wanted me to get the pamphlet and the immigrant fee form so i could get a head start on any preparations for when i receive my visa.

They gave me back my passport and asked me to resubmit it with the supplementary document.

I did this two days later but was told that my passport was not indicated on the form of items to be resubmitted. So i submitted the supplementary document and began waiting to be notified to submit my passport.

When i logged in to uscis, i was told i was now in administrative processing.

Its been over three weeks now.

To make matters worse, the travel ban will take effect from Feb 22nd.

I'm very confused about the entire process. Does anyone have any insights?

I think that their protocol in Lagos US embassy. This is exactly what happened to me, I was told to submit my supporting documents along with my passport which I did but they returned my passport and asked me to wait untill they requested for it. I was confused as you are then. They will review your supporting documents and contact you to submit your passport later. This can be btw a week to a months, it depends. Every cases pass through administrative processing so your update is normal.

Dont stress yourself about ban, it can affect spousal visa

Did you mean iit "can't" affect spousal visa? Because you said "don't stress yourself about travel ban"

How sure are you that the ban won't affect spousal visa? That will be a great relief, because a lot of us are really stressing abour the ban...

Do you mean it can't affect spousal visa? Are you sure about this?

With the look of things,I pray they request for your passport early before 22 so that your visa will be printed. But one thing that make me think it wont affect you is that you already pay an immigrant fee and your the CO told you your visa will be issued.

I have not yet paid the fee. He gave me the form but there’s no alien registration number on it (because they haven’t issued the visa). That’s part of why I said it was very strange. At the time I thought it wasn’t important because I assumed they would get back to me in a few days. It’s been almost a month now.

I believe you are talking about the $220 immigrant visa fee -  that is for the green card.

Which is why I’m confused. Why did the interviewer give me that document when I couldn’t use it. He seemed to think they would get back to me shortly. He specifically told me “the visa will take two weeks to issue, so submit the extra document with your passport” then he didn’t tick the box for passport on the document request form. I’m not sure if the whole thing was a mistake from their end, but then I can’t imagine why they would give me all this info then send me to ap

When they tell you that it "will take two weeks" as the future recipient of a visa, you probably will have no qualms. But if they had told you it could take upwards to 6 months and maybe longer your entire demeanor changes. This whole process is designed that what every is said will not create an argument even if it is not true.

The second item is your passport. Since it may take some time for them to issue your visa, there is the possibility that you would need to use your visa to leave your country for another. If you have to go through the exercise in contacting the embassy and then they have to go looking for your passport, it's just not worth it for the embassy so they give you the passport and ask for it when they are ready to issue the visa.

So I was refused the visa. I’m so confused. The interviewer expressly told me I had no problem, gave me the alien registration form and all that, then told me to submit an extra document as well as my passport, that my passport will be issued in two weeks.
he never mentioned administrative processing ( which I was placed in).
mans now I’ve been refused. Saw the refusal on ceac. Have not been contacted yet.

i don’t know what to do now. I’m so confused .

You are either Approved or Refused, being in AP means you are currently not Approved so it will show Refused.
