I just called USCIS as my impatience for the work permit is rapidly growing. I  told them that I understand biometrics cannot be taken due to everything being closed, but I have not received any biometrics appointment letter and it’s now been 3 months. I told them sending biometrics letter is not an in-person service. The lady replied that they are not scheduling any appointments until after June 4th (if not postponed again). I replied back “To be clear, this means that if you are sending out letters after June 4th, that means that on the day of June 4th there will be no biometrics appointments at all? Even though that’s when centers reopen?” She said that is correct. So guys in other words, they are trying to slow everything down as much as they can, and this proves it. What kind if place opens up on June 4th but with zero appointments scheduled for that day? What are they opening in-person services for if there are zero persons to serve? I am guessing they will open on the 4th, send us letters a month later, and maybe we’ll be able to take biometrics in August or September. Meanwhile we cannot leave the country to work back home for that period of time, or our AOS will be considered as abandoned. I guess we just have to stay home and be taken care of like little children by our spouse for 8 months or so just for a work permit.

Thank you so much for calling and sharing this information. I'm a bit surprised, I was hoping they would approve more green cards without interview or at least schedule interviews now so that when they open things would move quicker. Or even approve work permits at this time. I'm sure they are backed up with so many interviews already that they had to reschedule in the past. My poor husband has been waiting to work since January. In that time we've gotten the ball rolling with obtaining a drivers license and all the necessary requirements,   but that appears to be as far as he can go. Even for immigrant spouses seeking to further their education with a higher level degree, some programs are requiring permanent residence of the USA or citizenship. Hopefully and maybe USCIS is using June 4th to figure out how they will enforce sanitation and distancing measures before interviewees and biometric applicants arrive 🤷🏿‍♀️?? I guess we will see. I just hope June 4th doesn't get pushed back again at this point.

I've been "Ready to be scheduled for a interview" since early April. I'm guessing now it just depends on when the Montgomery, AL office decides to finally schedule my interview. The most frustrating thing is I can't get my wife a drivers license in the state of Alabama since she doesn't have a valid visa anymore / Greencard. Nor can she work legally because we don't have a work permit.

Does anyone else know why they're not issuing work permits (EAD) ? Her biometrics were done in early march...

what I have seen here is that you can expedite EAD if there’s a job offer. Otherwise I would count your wife lucky that she was able to get her biometrics done. Interviews are indeed on hold but EAD card issuance is still happening.

Husbands request to expedite his EAD due to job offer and my unemployment has been rejected twice now with no help from our congresswoman. 😪

Congress  can do little dealing with USCIS sometimes it works and other times not. Same as the expedite  some  times  it works then others they deny!

I am so sorry to hear this news. I was in touch with the Senators office and they assisted me in expediting my case. I had a job offer to accompany my request, maybe that the ticket. Have you started applying for jobs yet?

Yes, we included his job offer letter and another letter from his potential employer to explain why they needed him on the team.

I think it’s just easier for them to deny at the moment.

Hmmm. Very strange. Don’t give up. Can you appeal it? I was denied once before also.

I think during this time they (USCIS) are seeing a rash of expedited  applications and they are being extra picky of the ones they approve. For awhile there before Corona they were approving them like crazy.

Hello ,

I have filed for my parents I-130 and I-485 with NOA of Feb 10 , 2020 . They are done with bio metrics and now waiting for next steps . Any insights on where is the timeline for concurrent filing / anyone has gotten approved ? It says , filed at MSC , which is equivalent to NBC ( National benefits Center) .

I think timelines are totally screwed because of the current situation and we're all just getting up each day hoping for the best. Hopefully USCIS really opens their doors again by June 4th for the public so things can start moving again.

Hey guys, I called USCIS again about the same work permit issue, as I’m still waiting for the biometrics appointment to be scheduled. I called, and the lady almost immediately submitted a request on my behalf to look into this, and I should get an answer back, or an appointment scheduled for me, in my email in 15-30 days. I gave her my email address and she gave me a 16-digit case number to track and document the request.

Hopefully this will speed things up a little bit.

Hi guys, it seems USCIS is getting ready to reopen for in person interviews starting June 4th instead of prolonging the closure again. Good news for all of us who are waiting to do biometrics :) No walk ins though, we have to wait for new biometrics appointments by mail according to the website, and will only be allowed into the building fifteen minutes prior to the appointment. And of course there will be rules for social distancing, we'll have to bring masks etc. Fingers crossed all field offices will be able to reopen, so that all of our applications can start progressing again!

Also per the new guidelines, for those awaiting green card interview appointments, you will need to bring your own pen and potentially a mask. No idea when they will start send out those notices or even EAD approvals.
