Wow. I thought they’d send it back with tracking or something. I‘m not sure if I’d be willing to do this after all the headlines 😅 Thank you for sharing!

Yes that's what I am saying it was before all the headlines and turmoil with USPS. I don't blame you I would think twice about it or on second thought use FedEx or UPS! It never occurred to me to use FedEx as they are my go to forwarders!

I'm not a fan of sending those kinds of documents through the mail, but desperate times call for desperate measures. My local SSA office has been closed since March absolutely no face to face no appointments no nothing, but phone calls. So after we got my wife's GC in April we waited a bit to see if the SS office would open. It did not so I let my wife make the decision since they were her documents.

We did send her GC, marriage license, SS-5 (SS card application) and the old SS card with her maiden name on it. We sent it to our local office after making 500% sure of the correct address. We used USPS (before all the headlines) certified registered mail. I might add the office was just a few blocks away from our house. I'll admit we were on pins and needles as even then USPS is not absolutely perfect in delivering any type mail no matter how important. Long story short it got there they processed it and sent her documents back directly after they were done. This next part will scare you and had I known I might have elected not to send through the mail. When the local office sent the documents back to us they used regular mail no kind of tracking whatsoever whewwwww we dodged a bullet there. All in all we were glad we did as the card came a few weeks later in her married name. If you should do this I would highly recommend you supply return postage with tracking.

Thank you for this! All helpful.

Gotta admit though.. it did make me a little anxious reading this. 😂

Did you guys have to send your Release form by mail too?

Yes. I sent it to them right away. Not sure if that helped my approval but day after the person I was talking to said that they’ll send it up to USCIS, I got approved.

I didn't mail but faxed them. You can send faxed online nowadays. Call them and see if you can send via fax or a copy signed via email

You can only track I think if they send a tracking  number.

Yes. You can get your tracking number via Emma.

1. Tell emma to “Chat with a live rep”

2. Emma will ask what you need a live rep for. Choose “Case Status”

3. She will then ask for your case number

4. She’ll confirm if you want to chat with a live rep.

5. She’ll then connect you to Tier 1 via chat. They’ll ask standard questions to confirm identity. Ask for your tracking number.

Thanks @mat2291

They don't have the tracking number yet, but at least it's processing.  I'll look for it sometime next week.

Once we get that, we'll get her state issued ID and continue to wait for her interview.

Combo cards are being sent via express priority mail lately so they are getting delivered within 2-4 days. I would recommend trying again tomorrow to ask for the tracking number.

It’s because they got a slap on the wrist for the EAD processing so they’re legally bound to speed up processing. Otherwise, they breach the grounds for settlement.

I hope they also get a class-action lawsuit for the green cards. The processing time for family-based is ridiculous.

Omg yes it is. People from March get EAD approved without expediting now. I have my green card interview in 2 weeks but no EAD yet. Means when (assuming) I get approved I still have to wait up to 60? Days to be able to start working 🤯🤯🤯. I read that somewhere if they approve you they get 60 days to send the damn card.
