I had a call with uscis Supervisor today, he was very nice and said that they schedule biometrics on Fridays, and expect it to be scheduled this Friday. He said to call them on Monday to check, and if not, ask to run a search WHY. Also, he said that ASC are independent contractors, he said that after my question about uscis furlough.

so they only schedule biometrics on fridays ? that is new info

duh

Some good news today, my EAD status updated to  "Card Was Mailed To Me" on August 15th.

It took 5 days to get it printed and mailed following my Biometrics being completed. Hopefully I'll have it in hand this week.

So you had biometrics and roughly a week later got EAD approved? Thats really good news. Hopefully it all smooth for everyone now.

Not quite, unfortunately.

I was actually approved earlier for EAD on July 15th, and had my biometrics taken after approval (August 10th).

I got the notification on August 15th that my card had been mailed out (most likely on August 14th).

A few of us here have been approved prior to biometrics being taken which has been a little confusing.

  • 2020-02-14: Date Filed
  • 2020-02-19: NOA1
  • 2020-03-13: Biometrics appointment (Rescheduled due to conflict)
  • 2020-04-01: Biometrics appointment (Rescheduled due to COVID)
  • 2020-07-15: EAD approved (no biometrics taken)
  • 2020-08-10: Biometrics Appointment (Success)
  • 2020-08-20: EAD in hand
  • 2020-09-21: AOS Interview Scheduled
  • 2020-11-05: AOS Interview + Approval

Does this mean that ASC staff are not affected by the furlough? My biometric appointment is booked for the 31st August so I am concerned the furlough will go ahead on the 30th August and my appointment will once again be cancelled. If they are contractors and not affected though then this eases my concerns a bit.

I will be receiving a mail from USCIS Today. Postmark date is 8/13/2020. I feel like sending the old biometric appointment did work so do it .

So you also tried this? When did you send it to USCIS? And did you send both notices in one envelope? Or did you just send back one of the old appointment notices?

I'm waiting for a callback from Tier 3, but maybe this is a better option after all.especially since I know I haven't been scheduled yet.

Uggg this is awful news. We are in the same boat as you. Unfortunately, getting biometrics appointments next week is probably useless. If we don’t get in the offices before they shut down again September 1st, we are the back of the line again. That means our process STARTS in 2021, most likely. This is brutal and we are in the same position as you.

Unfortunately, Independent contractors still need to get paid. If we are not in the ASC offices before they close, this is going to get very bleak for a lot of us. We already were skipped in line once in favor of new applicants. Even if the offices reopen after a Stimulus deal is reached, We probably are starting again at the end of the line.

I knew I had read somewhere, I don't remember where, that ASCs are independent contractors! Hopefully that means that if we're scheduled sometime within the next two weeks, we'll still be able to give biometrics through the furloughs.

That is my precise concern - don't want to be bumped to the back of the line again!

Does anyone know what day the furloughs kick in and therefore offices likely to close? I have read in some places that they kick in on the 30th August and in others the 1st September but can't find a definitive answer.

Yes but who is paying the independent contractors?  It’s a contract with USCIS which is about to close down in a week. They will not stay open without money. I REALLY hope I am wrong, but why would I be hopeful given how brutal this has been for February filers?

I sent it August 7th. The USPS guy told me it would be delivered on Tuesday. The letter got shipped out on Thursday.

This is great advice. Thank you. Nothing to lose since it’s these next two weeks or nothing. We sent in ourA with rechedule box checked. Sent it overnight on Thursday so they should have it today. Nothing to lose.

I wish we had this option -- we weren't even given an original biometrics appointment.

First that is super stressful. Second it might be a blessing in disguise. If the computer identifies you as a “new” appointment, you could jump ahead of the “reschedule” appointments as has happened to everyone else. Thoughts and prayers. It’s this next two weeks or nothing for so many of us.
