The product in question is clearly a differentiated brand. To differentiate that product from other products they need to first understand what segment(s) they're targeting, and adequately position themselves as closely as possible to that (or those) segment(s). 

 

Part of this is understanding the psychographics of who they're dealing with and what motivates them most. Thus, it's not about the science of climate change (the climate isn't buying this product) it's about "tying" their product to a social movement in the mind of consumers. While some might think this is an assessment suggesting nefarious intentions, what they're doing is no different than any company with differentiated products utilizing psychographically segmented targeting.

It isn't to my taste, but I know the history of Chanel, and in particular the evolution of the Chanel jacket as an iconic item of clothing. Far more is spent (in marketing) socially aligning with specific psychographics than producing the garbage, and even then, plenty of profit left over from the woke markup.
