If anyone touched her clothing, their DNA is on said clothing.  Maybe yours is.  Maybe mine?  Who's to say...

Very possibly! That's why doing discovery is really important to determine whether he touched her dress or not. It isn't even about the alleged rape, really -- it's about Trump saying nope, don't know her, she's lying to sell books. But if he didn't know her, why would his DNA be on the dress, if in fact it is (and it may not be)? I don't know enough about DNA technology to say well, testing can say it's got to be semen or saliva or skin cells, so I won't opine on that aspect. Eliminating the possibility it is him is what discovery is for.

I have a red dress shirt and acid washed jean jacket from 30 years back. I never wear them, but I try them on every few years when I'm sorting through my closet for stuff to donate.

I am judging you for that acid wash. I do not know how I had the perspicacity as a tween and teenager, at the height of all things acid wash, to avoid the stuff, but I did. I do have a hoodie from 1984 that I still wear occasionally (made in the USA and in tip top condition), a tee shirt from the JV softball team I was on in 1990, and a sun-faded flannel of similar vintage that I can juuuuust about wear still. Alas, all have been laundered many, many times.

Don't you think it's possible Trump touched her dress, but had no reason to ever remember her?

....... there are multiple DNA profiles on the dress, but it is important to note that DNA is shed not only through semen, but also through other excreta of the body, as I'm sure you know, Steeleballz. The question is: if Trump did not meet her, but his DNA is on her dress, under what circumstances could that happen? Or, if he did meet her, is there a more innocent explanation for the presence of his DNA on her dress? That's the point of this case progressing to discovery. Sampling as mooted by Carroll's team is non-invasive -- it involves testing saliva. No blood or semen sample required. He can be eliminated, or not.

And as for keeping items of clothing unwashed after an assault, I have a beautiful violet cardigan tucked away in storage that was handed back to me by the LAPD when the DA declined to move my case forward. I will never wear it again, and never wish to look at it again, but it is part of something that happened to me. Throwing it away seems wrong -- I think some part of me knows he might do it again to some other woman, and if he does, I have something to show: this happened to me, too. Not every person who has been assaulted will think the same way, but I understand why she might have done what she did.

Thank you for the legal analysis and thank you for sharing your very personal history on this topic.

I am sorry you had that crime invade your life.

She stole her allegations from a 2012 episode of Law and Order.

Her interview with Anderson Cooper was interesting.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

You are saying she is definitely fabricating this story.

Of course not.

I do not jump to conclusions without any evidence.

If I were telling a true personal story, and someone says that I borrowed it from a TV show, I would put him in the column of he thinks I made this up.

That sounds different to definitely fabricating.

I think the point is having your DNA on someones clothing would negate the claim that you never met them.

Yes, absolutely possible. This is the sort of thing that can be developed through the discovery process and trial, if necessary. It's good to keep an open mind while also being mindful of the alleged incident in the greater context of historical allegations.
