Applicants who fall into any category listed in italics below should bring these additional documents:

***Please note:  If any of the documents requested below were issued in a language other than English, you need to bring English translations to your visa interview along with the original civil documents.

For family-based visa applications:

  • The appropriate Form I-864 Affidavit of Support for each financial sponsor, including the Petitioner, along with a photocopy of either (a) the sponsor’s most recent IRS transcript or (b) the sponsor’s most recent U.S. federal income tax return and relevant W-2s.  Petitioners who have no income should submit a simple letter stating that fact.

  • Proof of each sponsor’s U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency and domicile in the United States (photocopy of a U.S. passport, U.S. birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or lawful permanent resident card).  Please advise your sponsor that a copy of his/her driver’s license will not suffice; these documents do not indicate citizenship or legal resident status.

  • Evidence you wish to submit as proof of your relationship with your Petitioner (such as photographs, letters, electronic correspondence, money transfers, etc.).

  • Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage:  Applicants for a fiancé(e) (“K”) visa must present a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage issued by the Registrar General’s Department (RGD).  Certificates of No Impediment to Marriage issued by any agency other than the RGD will not be accepted

I don't think it's the COs being sexist (they might be) and more that they recognize the sexism is society and especially in many developing countries. The truth is that most men are not interested in a serious relationship with a woman who is their mother's age and that's even more true in more conservative (and therefore more sexist) cultures. Those men would never consider a woman like that from their own country, that's why it's hard to believe the relationship is genuine.

My point exactly.  Most women would not date their grandpa, but it is common that a 65 yo male is married to a 19 yo and it is not questioned.  Why is that not hard to believe that it is genuine.

Yes, but I'm glad that our age gap is not that huge, and hopefully it will not become an issue. I think that I am overthinking the situation.

It does not matter your age gap span.  What I am saying is that women are scrutinized more than men when they are older, regardless of information submitted as genuine.

Yes, I understand your point of view. The interviewer could care less about love, that are looking for bona fide relationships.

Hey guys...

So, I was just reading a post from a fellow VJ member and I was thinking about the age gap situation. I am a US citizen and my last husband who is a US citizen was much older then me and we had a significant age gap. No one even questioned it, and of course, I am totally aware that this would be an issue for some individuals in other countries because of marriage fraud.

My thoughts are... how can the interviewer really determine if the marriage is a fraud because of the age difference? I, of course, do not have a concern with age because love is all that really matters, but I am worried (I overthink at times) that this issue (age gap) prevents other people from being together. Seems so unfair, but what are your thoughts?

It is very common for young males from high-fraud countries to befriend and court older American women online in an attempt to get a green card.  Interestingly, this demographic does not marry women in their own countries when there is a large age difference.  So naturally, there is suspicion when this behavior is seen.

Yes, I suppose it's actually for the individual's protection.

No, it is for the enforcement of US immigration law as it applies to marriages fraudulently concluded to seek an immigration benefit.

Yes, it almost seems like they have a lot of power.

They do have a lot of power cut they don't busy operate without any kind of guidance and training.

She Gap is just one thing. Like I stated and was reiterated by others.

For some countries a certain age Gap, no one bats an eyelash, in another, the same age Gap immediately sends a red flag. It is what it is.

Yes, I see not reason for a denial unless there is something really strange in the relationship. I think the Embassy takes a list of red flags to determine a denial and I am sure it is documented clearly as well to support their decision.
