FEBRUARY 2020 K-1 NOA2 to NVC to Embassy

Hey guys,

Thought I'd update you all.

I was informed the other day that our scheduled interview for August 3 was cancelled.  I was not given a reason, so I am under the assumption that they cancelled all of the interviews that had been scheduled for August (or possibly all scheduled interviews altogether).  When I checked the interview portal yesterday, there were no available dates.

I plan to continue checking the interview portal to reschedule.  I am not sure if they cancelled due to (i) a top-down mandate from U.S. Sec of State to cancel all embassy appointments per the executive order or something similar, or (ii) the fact that I have not received anything directly from the embassy with instructions to make the appointment (note I received the approval letter from the NVC a while back, just not the P3 from the Colombian embassy), or some combination of the both.  I just want to continue to stay ahead of everything to minimize the possibility that we are in the back of the line when things open up.  Everyone assumes and prays that things will be orderly when the open up (e.g. the earliest applicants will get the first appointments), but I personally do not have faith that will be the case, so I encourage everyone to keep checking and be proactive!

I have also decided I will likely be moving to Colombia temporarily once the Colombian boarder opens.  Who knows when that will be. I'm just staying positive and concentrating on my own relationship, which is doing great despite everything.  If I have to become an expat due to the situation (and let's be real, the Trump administration likely more so than the situation), I will.

I'll keep y'all updated. Praying for all of y'all.

What proclamation are you referring to? 😢

This doesn't make any sense (cancelling your interview) even if the ban applies to k1 visa(actually it doesn't) it's only for 60 days, why they should cancel August interviews?there must be some technical issue. 🤔

Embassies are the ones that grant interviews. We all know that US Embassy in all countries have been shut down even before this 60days ban. So don’t get it twisted because they are two separate things. Kindly do a follow up on your country to know when the embassy will be open. If embassy do not open, no interview will be granted even after the 60days elapse.

Yea that's true.. I just replied to @Hbundle bcoz he/she thinks it may be effect of " (i) a top-down mandate from U.S. Sec of State to cancel all embassy appointments per the executive order or something similar"

We all just can guess and do nothing untill embassies take decisions.

I made a reply in another thread addressing this issue. You may want to take a look.

Thanks for posting an update. What makes you consider moving to Colombia? I've definitely considered it myself but I'm concerned that leaving my current my job will cause an issue with the affidavit of support since my income would probably drop below the required level if I worked outside of the US.

I decided to not schedule an interview because I wanted to get P3 first. I emailed the embassy about it and they responded with a generic message with no information regarding P3.

Hey everyone do we have to email our embassy to extend our case since NOA2 expires after 4 months? Or will it be automatically done

No one can say. IMHO they will let you know once they are about to reopen. No need to go out of your way to try and get an answer from a closed embassy. Just doesn't make sense.

The embassy in Chile. When did your lawyer tell you this? I was told this information last week.

Indonesian embassy stated this:

"U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and those holding valid immigrant visas on the effective date of the Proclamation, are not subject to the proclamation. No valid visas will be revoked under this proclamation. This proclamation does not apply to nonimmigrants or K (Fiance) visa holders."

So i believe K1 visa is not affected by the proclamation?

But my question is...  even if it doesn't affect K1 visa, are we even able to apply for a green card after we enter the US and got married? isn't that categorized as an immigrant visa?

Dated for almost 3 years before he proposed. 💍

Do all embassies accept payment when the DS-160 is filled out?

I have filled out the form for my Jamaican fiance and didn't find anywhere to pay the fee anywhere?  Do some embassies allow online payments and other require cash?  This is so confusing that there are separate processes.

That just sounds like people who already have K visas will not be affected to me.

But no matter what, they're not even issuing new K visa at the moment, so if you have the visa now then you're good if not, then we'll see.
