Hey @Ryceryce Thanks for the update. My fiance called the US embassy in Guyana and was told that they cannot give him any information because the embassy is closed and we should call NVC. I called NVC this morning and was told the case never left NVC and it will be shipped out when the embassy in Guyana is operating again. I wasn't told when that would be, if its the next shipment or not. This is very disappointing and frustrating news to find out one month after thinking that our case was en route to Guyana. So, I guess we are back to playing the horrid game of waiting and this time it is worse because no one knows when Covid-19 will ease up. Please keep me updated with your process and I will do the same.

@NewYorker14 will do so. I will pm you.

@Ryceryce when I checked our case status last night it was changed to "ready".

@Greenbaum Do you know what the "01 GEO" at the end of our case # means? Is that because I only filed for my fiancé?

Is it normal to have the date the case was last updated? I ask because I haven't seen anyone uploaded a picture stating that.

For the date where it says "case created", is that the date NVC created the case or is it something else?

Our case was supposedly shipped out March 31st but when I called NVC yesterday they told me it in fact was not shipped out & they will "resend" it when the consulate in Guyana reopens. I don't get how they'll "resend" it if she claims it was never sent before. @Ryceryce I forgot to tell you about the "resend" part yesterday.

@Greenbaum  1) For the date where it says "case created", is that the date NVC created the case or is it something else? I couldn't see the case creation date before that's why I'm asking.

3) If the case is still at NVC like the representative told me, why did the status suddenly change to "ready" ?

4) Is that the soft copy "ready"?

5) Now that it says "ready" what are we supposed to do?

I don't know what to believe now, was the case shipped or not and why did it change to ready the same day I called them.. the consulate/embassy didn't offer any information not even if they have the case, so how would I even verify any information... do we fill out the DS 160 & proceed like we would've... I'm confused & concerned.

1. Yes

3. As I have stated in the PDF there are two ready conditions. One is the electronic feel being received at your embassy and the other ready is the paper file has arrived and the case is set to ready.

4. Yes

5. You stated your case is still at NVC so there is nothing you can do till you hear from your embassy except that if you have the case number you can complete the DS-160, pay your fee and look to see if there are any open interview dates. If not check back in a few days as some embassies are opening their schedules for June, July and Aug. Buyer beware if things change the embassy can cancel your interview date. You can gather police certificates make sure you have the documents that are needed for the interview.

Your welcome.

01 Geo is new to me. When you have a K-2 then mom is 01 and the K2 is 02 so on and so forth. I wouldn't make anything out of it.

Is it just me or is the DS-160 form website hot garbage? It's supposed to expire after 20 minutes but it wouldn't even let me complete a page before timing out. It took me 4 hours to fill out the entire thing after restarting at least 10 times. It also wouldn't let me save it to my hard drive, so I'm hoping that it'll let me log in when I get the photos, because the online save is supposed to expire after 30 days. It's also not letting me proceed without uploading a photo so I have to upload it since taking the photo to the embassy instead isn't an option.

If it takes longer than 20 minutes, you have to start over, it autosaves things after you've gone on to the next page, but there were some pages on which it felt like a race to fill out everything before my time was up. It definitely took way less than 20 minutes note than a few times.

You can theoretically save it to your computer, so you can upload and continue later, but that part just kept spitting out errors.

Once you've filled the whole thing out and printed it or whatever, you're probably fine, the problems with it expiring were happening to me as I was filling it out and trying to export it.

I ended up taking notes, so I could just copy-paste it again later if the website was being a jerk for the millionth time.

Thank you for that clarification.

I experienced similar issues filling out the form with it logging out and having to log back in multiple times, etc., but it sounded like you were saying that once the form was filled out and filed - its validity would expire - this was news to me.  But after your redress that's not what you're saying at all. #Phew!

See if this helps:  https://ceac.state.gov/GENNIV/Help/Content/Recovering an Application after Session Time Out.htm and/or what's below:

  • Use Chrome as your browser. Many have reported no problems when using Chrome
  • Use your browser's private or incognito mode.
  • Disable browser plugins.
  • Use only 1 tab when filling out the form.  Do NOT have the form open on multiple tabs.
  • Press "SAVE" every time you finish a page of the form.
  • If the session times out again:
  • Clear browser cookies and cache.
  • Close the browser (not just the tab), wait a minute, re-open browser.
  • Retrieve application and continue filling out the form.

I tried those, but it's still garbage. 😛

It's doing the same thing on mobile. I thought I'd be smart and try to save it to my phone instead, but it didn't work either.
