I tried to check the status under the section Visa Status Check - immigrant visa but they want me to enter the case number which I don't have. Am I missing something?

Your not missing anything but the NVC case number which you are trying to get. I just got ahead of myself:bonk:. So once you get the case number AND invoice number then you can refer to the instructions in #8. Sorry about that.

Is it the only way to get the case number by calling the NVC, or they will notify us? Because we are approved January 24th with notice date january 27th and still didn't hear anything from NVC.

What do you ask them when you call?

Guys, my US fiancé tried many many times to call the NVC but it seems impossible to talk to anybody. Always a voice message that drops the call.

My hardcopy NOA2 date is 30th January 2020....I hope that our case will be sent by March 4th...

I called two times. Both times I called  past 5pm EST. First time I waited like 1 minute, second time I waited maximum 5 minutes, but both times I called late. I called from a USA number, I dont know if that makes a difference.

Call this number 1 (603) 334-0888, try calling after 5pm, later in the evening, they are open until  12.00 am EST if I am not mistaken.

You ask them if they have assigned a case number to your file and if you could please have the number and the invoice number. It's pretty simple.

There are details in other things you can do along the way in a PDF file on the first page, first post of this thread. It's highly recommended and free to use. These are answers to most of the questions that are asked over and over again.

N/A. this form was intended for other visa types and not necessarily for K-1's, so you will find some questions that don't quite fit the norm. This is one of those.

Public Charge form DS-5540

It has been reported that a CR-1 visa applicant at their interview yesterday was requested the new DS-5540 form. As the applicant did not have one, he was put on AP and requested by way of a 221(g) to complete one and return it to the embassy. Once received the entire case will be adjudicated to an outcome.

Since I can't say if this is true for K-1's, as I heard, they were exempt if they had filed before Feb 24th. Since this is so new and so many speculations are whirling, we will hear different stories until the dust settles.

This is all I know. I'm not going to be able to answer any questions because we and I don't know what the requirements are and how each embassy is going to handle this. I recommend that you get a copy of the form and have it filled out for the interview to circumvent any delay.

It's good VJ etiquette to return and make another post stating that "you already figured it out" so that others don't spend their time needlessly either searching for an answer to help you or replying with their knowledge.  Just saying.

Hi @Greenbaum I recently got my NOA2 approved, my fiancée is in India (Consulate will be in Mumbai). I know it will take a few weeks to get the application to NVC before I get my number. I am trying to sign up for an account today. My question was, is there anything we can do in the mean time to get ahead of the curve? Can she get her Police Clearance certificate or medical, or can either of us finish up some forms (DS-160, anything on her end)? Also what's a packet 3 or packet 4 and does such a thing exist for the Mumbai consulate? Any other helpful information and your help is really appreciated.
