TB Sputum Test - Visa Interview Delayed IR-5 interview

Yesterday my father and mother had medical appointment at Apollo Hospital in Ahmadabad. My mother's medical report was cleared without any issue but for my father doctor asked him go through Sputum TB test. Also this additional Sputum TB test result will not be available for another 8 weeks which means my father can not attend his visa interview scheduled next week. Doctor informed that after 8 weeks if the report is negative, he will forward the medical results to consulate in Mumbai and then consulate will reschedule the visa interview.

My questions are...

1) How long it takes for consulate to reschedule the interview once the negative test results are received from doctor?
2) My mother plans to go to her visa interview next week as scheduled by NVC however if she gets her visa she will have to travel within 6 months. My mother can not travel on her own so it is important for me to know how long it will take for consulate to schedule father's interview once medical results are received from doctor. Should we cancel my mom's interview instead?

Please help and guide..

Contact the embassy and ask if he can still join the interview and get that out of the way, basically see if they can put him in AP till his test clears.
