Divorce Certificate vs Divorce Decree

I was wondering if there is a difference for these purposes. My divorce decree is a long document, but when I looked to see about getting a "divorce certificate" online, Utah records only went until 2010. When I sent in the petition, I just included the entire divorce decree, but didn't realize there was a distinction between a decree and a certificate.

So, is there a question?

YMMV

Sounds to me like it's the same thing. There might be subtle differences, but either of the "certificate" or "decree" are usable in the I-129F petition as proof of divorce.

I learned the hard way, I hope YOU don't have to. Advice: learn, learn, learn.

Sorry if that wasn't very clear. My question is: is there a difference between a divorce certificate and a divorce decree as evidence of termination of divorce for the purposes of obtaining the k1 visa?

I-129F instructions specify a divorce decree, so you sent the correct document.  Others have had RFEs for only sending a divorce certificate.  They want the entire decree, all pages, as stated in the instructions.  Good luck with your K-1 process!

There’s a difference between a divorce decree and a divorce nisi (certificate) when we did ours, we had sent the nisi, we later received an RFE that requested the decree.

They aren’t the same. We sent the certificate then got an RFE to send the decree
