Hey all.

I am British and my gf is Filipina and we live in Spain.

We are currently applying for her B2 visa (for 3 weeks in Florida, the whole Disney thing) but I will be paying for the whole trip as she has very little savings.

Can anyone tell me how we prove that I will be paying during the application process/interview stage? And what would be her chances of getting approved?

We are not married but we have the official ‘civil partnership’ in Spain if that helps.

thanks so much!

They do not ask about savings, her best evidence is her legal residence/job in Spain.

Hey , thanks so much for your reply!

I should have mentioned, sorry. She is also currently unemployed but like I said, I would be paying the whole thing for both of us and can comfortably afford the trip.

I know being unemployed would normally count against her but I was wondering if because we have the Spanish civil partnership (pareja de hecho) and can prove it, that would change things? Like if she could show my financial details and also prove that she is my legal partner to prove the trip will be paid for? Or does it not work like that?

Thanks so much once more!

Well the application has a spot for her marital status, and I seem to recollect it now includes common law.

When do you need to apply by, could you wait until she has a job? Would look better.

She would not be going is there was not the money to pay for it, they are more interested in her wanting to leave.

Hey again!

Right, so from a job point of view it would be more that they are looking for her to have something to go back to as an incentive rather than the financial side of paying for the trip?

Also, I get what you’re saying about having the money to go there (and therefore why else would we be applying for a visa) but surely it would still be relevant in terms of her not ‘getting stuck there’ and not having the means to leave? Obviously that won’t happen, just trying to think from the point of view of the visa officer.

Thanks again for your help! This is our first time doing this :)

Presumably she wants a 10 year visa, so why would you paying for the immediate visit be relevant?

Return tickets are usually cheaper than singles so why would she get stuck?

Hmm, I didn't think about it from that angle to be fair. I actually completely forgot the visa would be for 10 years!

It would be a shame for that to complicate things as it would more than likely be this one trip only and if we had the choice to shorten the length of the visa to improve our chances of getting approved we probably would!

It is what it is though. Based on what I have said though, what would you say our chances of being approved are? I mean there must have been loads of people in this situation before (where a partner or spouse is paying for everything) but I wonder what the approval ratio is in these circumstances.

Like you say though, the visa officer will probably be more interested in her ties to Spain and we should be quite strong in that regard, even though she doesn't have a job currently. Obviously the whole thing is legit, we're just looking for the best angle to prove this to the visa office in our circumstances :)

Thanks again for your insight!

In the bast majority of cases the application details everything they need to male a decision.
