Yes. You can get wipes for convenience, but I often had to cover large areas too with the liquid. Always take precautions with it. Dad picked up a bunch of superbugs from his hospital stay that took months to treat. It was important to keep everything clean to prevent reinfection and the home nurse liked having them around to clean the stethoscopes. In the hospital they made us all wear those special suits, felt kind of stupid because I didn't have such a thing at home, and I was the one cleaning it all.

Not to burst your bubble, but that is watered down for direct use, and is only 0.65% NaOCl.  You can buy regular Clorox (or pretty much ANY cheap bleach), and it is typically 5.25% or 6% NaOCl.  Mix the 5.25 common stuff with water 1:5 and you will have a solution that is 1.05% NaOCl, or 1.6 times stronger than that over-priced bottle I posted.  I'd wait for SB to weigh in, but I am pretty sure my maff is korek.  The benefit of not buying the pre-mix is that YOU can control the strength.  Gotta measure though, not just "splash in some water" as most of us do.

And I am sure you are familiar, with your hospital experience, but if ridding yourself of germs is of utmost importance, you can scrub your skin with Hibiclens: https://www.amazon.com/Hibiclens-Surgical-Scrub-Bottle-57532/dp/B00ZQDUGXM/ref=sr_1_8?gclid=CjwKCAiAjrXxBRAPEiwAiM3DQrJUmbH_bI0jg7iwBnUuq21h8e1KUgZoHfVH2wKnGqk6rRK0A-1pWBoCJhsQAvD_BwE&hvadid=177768751082&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9011975&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=13008457290711506575&hvtargid=aud-836288731366%3Akwd-137549636&hydadcr=4020_9600073&keywords=hibiclens&qid=1580088075&sr=8-8

I also used regular bleach, especially for clothing. But clorox germicidal and Sani is the only one that is regulated and specifically studied for killing particular pathogens. Most hospitals will also use Sani. It was recommended by the ID doctor and a nurse that had gone through this herself, and for what it's worth it worked for me.

Again, maybe SB will come in and dash my theories, but sodium hypochlorite is what it is, just varying strengths. The one I showed above is simple diluted with water to the level that is recommended to kill pathogens.  Dilute it less, and it kills pathogens faster/better (maybe).  Dilute it more, and it takes longer.  Never use it full strength of course.

This:

https://www.amazon.com/Clorox-Performance-CloroMax-Regular-bottles/dp/B074RDVQNT

Is STILL sodium hypochlorite, but at 8.3% strength.  You could buy these three bottles for $13.48, mix it to the exact strength as the hospital version that costs $20.10, but you'd have 12 gallons instead of one gallon.  With the same pathogen-fighting ability.

I love Sodium Hypochlorite for killing bad stuff.  We use to use it a lot in the Kaolin industry as clay slurries are great breeding grounds for bacteria that ruin the opacity and viscosity of clays. We use to have huge tanks 30X30 that we would fill with water then add 2 -55 gallon drums of Sodium Hypochlorite  at 12.5% ( if I remember correctly). Let it sit for a few days then pump it thru the loading lines to disinfect them. I use to sneak some home and use it to wash my house.

My second career was Operations Director of a company that Makes a product called Odoban. Really amazing stuff, based on Quaternary Ammonia. Kills 99.9% of all virus. The Owner is a real forward thinker kind of guy, real into solar energy etc. Backed by one of the smartest chemist I have ever worked with, he was one of the first in the industry to design EPA safer choice products that are designed  to be less toxic and safer for the environment.

Dont know if they still mess with it but at one time they were developing a product that was so safe, he would often spray it in his mouth on a demo. Had a kill efficacy similar to hypochlorite but with very low toxicity, the most amazing part it continued to protect the surface many days after a disinfection. Seems like it was based on colloidal silver but its been a while

We were out and about today in West LA/Little Osaka to go get udon and poke around Giant Robot. So many people (1) wearing protective face masks, and (2) Kobe Bryant jerseys/tshirts (also saw one person wearing a Lakers bathrobe). First confirmed cases here in LA county and Orange county.

For those that need to enter China in the future:

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/trump-administration-declares-coronavirus-outbreak-a-public-health-emergency

Quote

Citizens returning to the U.S. who have traveled to Hubei province in China, the epicenter of the outbreak, in the past 14 days will now be quarantined for up to 14 days, Azar said. Returning citizens who've traveled to anywhere else in mainland China in the past 14 days will be subject to enhanced screening and "monitored self-quarantine" in their homes for 14 days.

Azar said that anyone who posed a risk of transmitting the virus would be denied entry to the U.S., meaning all foreign nationals who've been in China in the past 14 days, with the exception of immediate family members of U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Hard to know how they define ''pose a risk'' The virus can be anywhere at this point, a person does not need to show any symptoms (a fever for example) and be a carrier, and I have heard reports that you can even test negative on blood tests and still be a carrier. Also, who will be going to monitor these people in their homes to ensure they are ''self quarantining''?

Been keeping an eye on this.  Sure, we are not completely certain we are getting all the real numbers out of China, but it is interesting that the numbers of those recovered have finally surpassed the number of deaths.

Yeah, Remdesivir, by Gilead. Beyond expensive, and has shown excellent promise for so many highly dangerous viruses. It was not so effective against Ebola though, when they last tried this. The patient is still isolated with a cough, so I assume they are still classified as potentially infectious, but I am glad they are better.

I am not a viralogist (if that is a word), but don’t most viruses mutate to become less dangerous as it would be counter productive to kill their host?

Saw this on another forum.  Cannot verify the veracity (nor whether any velociraptors were hurt in making the headline):

Here are some numbers I am looking for. I don’t know how much credit to give them or their source, but these numbers are bad.

Well, now it won’t work because it was taken down, but here is a capture of the headline:

Tencent may have accidentally leaked real data on Wuhan virus deaths
Tencent briefly lists 154,023 infections and 24,589 deaths from Wuhan coronavirus

I am not a viralogist (if that is a word), but don’t most viruses mutate to become less dangerous as it would be counter productive to kill their host?

Over time yes, many do. Sometimes it's because more virulent strains end up killing the host, in which case the viral organisms in the host will also die. As time goes on, this would favor attenuated strains surviving. The process of antigenic mutation is predominantly random. It's mostly a matter of errors in the replication process combined with the high rate of replication. Then it's just Darwinian evolution. It favors the evolution of the virus if the host recovers.
