Hi ,we recently filled dcf through London embassy,we had our receipts on the 23rd of dec

they have processed applications as of the 20th so hoping the next update ours will get processed.

i have a few questions about the affidavit of support ..I have dual nationality, and am now back working in the US while my family are in the U.K. preparing to join me .

My first question is how many pay stubs minimum will I need to provide for the i864

and as far as the federal taxes are concerned what would I provide for this section as I’ve worked in the U.K. self employed for the last 19 years and have only recently returned to the US
if there’s any other information about what I need to do leading up to this stage would be much appreciated as we are self filers so trying not to miss anything .

thanks in advance.

Just the last one this year is all that is needed.

3 years of US returns for USCIS - you know you need to file them.  7 years plus current if you don't want the IRS on you back.

Your wife takes the I-864 and anything that would have been filed at the  NVC to the interview.

Hi Paul & Mary

sorry if I sound stupid but as far as tax I’ve not lived in the US for 19 years I’ve been paying my taxes in the U.K. as a British citizen ..I’ve only just started working back in the us this year .

US Citizens are taxed on their world wide income and as the self employment rules are very different difficult to make a general comment as to what you owe. Also there are for example tax beneficial investments that would work in the UK but not in the US.

Anyway hopefully your CPA is versed on this subject.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

US citizens are required to file US tax returns with the IRS based on world-wide income, regardless of their country of residence or sources of income.  See IRS link below:

There is a reference right there in your US Passport.   One of the hidden gems of being a US Citizen.

My U.K tax years ?

Not sure how UK runs their tax year ... Australia runs July 1 through June 30 ... but no, not UK... you will need to work out  your income from Jan 1 through Dec 31 for the past 3 US tax years ... 2016,17,18 and possibly 19 if you end up interviewing after April 15th.

U.K. tax year is April 5th to April 5th

so do I need to work out my income and convert it into usd to fill the form out or do I actually need to provide proof with legal documents

Well there is a lot more to this than you seem to think, I would consult your CPA.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

You probably need a CPA.  As a US citizen you need to file  US tax returns every year, no matter where you live.  For Immigration you need 3 years.  Based on those late returns the IRS may ask you for more, typically 7 years.   There are exemptions to income and you may end up not paying the IRS anything.

I've work worldwide, have residency in another countries and my taxes are "messy" every year because the US requires me to report worldwide income.

Same US federal tax info you received back on this thread in October.
