Unless the grandparents have legal rights to your son you only need the fathers death certificate.

I have father death certificate and the grandparents never even support nor seen my son since I got divorced with his father in 2006.

Obviously you refer to the paternal grandparents as the maternal grandparent is in fact the one looking after him right now.

Why exactly do you think you need grandparent permission? I’m not clear on that.

Well I for one am not familiar with local laws and customs.

Yes for sure that is why I asked earlier if the grandparents had any legal rights.

Definitely sounds like rumor mill though. If OP could at least explain what “people” she heard it from...

I did just find a thread she posted in where someone was asked for the same. but we do not know why that member was asked. The child could have been in the grandparents custody. To many unanswered questions.

Is there anyone from MYANMAR? I married US citizen 2 and half year ago and now I'm in US with my husband for over 1 year. We filed visa for my son and now the case is at NVC. I have some questions for embassy interview. I divorced my ex-husband (my son's father) in 2006 and he passed away before I remarried to my current husband. I have both certificate of divorced and death, but I heard people are saying that consular might ask permission letter from grand parents to allow my son to come to USA. That will not be easy for me to get since I lost contact with that side so long ago. Can someone share experience with me,please? I need to know those people who recently took embassy interview at US embassy Yangon, Myanmar, thanks in advance.

No you do not need permission from the grand parents. As long as you have your ex-husband's death certificate you should be fine.

Thanks all of you for comments. I'm checking with local lawyer from Myanmar now.

Let us know what the lawyer says.

The other case on here that needed the grandparents consent we just don't know the why. It is completely possible the child in that situation was living with them. We probably will never know.
